I've always wanted a diesel truck, and I finally bought one. I just picked up a Summit White 2016 GMC Sierra 3500HD Denali Duramax with tan interior and 105k miles. It has what appears to be a 6" lift, 37" Toyos w/20" black wheels, hard bed cover, AMP steps, and a couple 10" subs under the rear seats. I am a COMPLETE beginner and I've been trying to learn everything about diesel ownership and operation, but suffice to say it's been like drinking from a fire hose, so I've got a long way to go. This time 3 weeks ago I didn't know even the basics, so I've come a long way, but I have a ton to learn. The truck is deleted with an EGR disable (I'm very curious to know what kind of tune the truck has. I know they had to tune it for the delete, and I wonder if they tried any kind of power tunes).
I just finished servicing the oil, transfer case, S&B intake filter, Air Dog fuel filters, transmission (including dropping the pan and replacing the internal filter), and front & rear diff so I can have a baseline for everything.
I also had to fix a few trim items that broke or were lost, replaced the "shark fin" aka high frequency antenna (GPS, OnStar, WiFi, etc weren't working), upgraded the wireless charger module so it can charge newer phones, swapped out the tow mirror marker lights with upgraded smoked out white and orange LED's, and upgraded a couple exterior lights with LED's. Oh yeah, I also just installed a "mirror tap" hardwire kit for my radar detector (I love those things).
My next project for the truck will be installing an Exergy "CP4 saver" upgraded fuel metering device to hopefully keep the CP4 from taking out the fuel system if it fails before I can replace it. I also just learned it has a 4" exhaust w/muffler and I'm heavily considering a 5" straight pipe. I just ordered a 30" piece of 4" tubing to delete the muffler to see how that sounds before I invest in the 5". I'm also wondering if I should bother with removing the EGR or just sticking with the disable.
I'll take some pictures when I wash it this coming weekend and post them.
I'm here to learn and hopefully someday pay it forward by contributing.
