Crown and Pinion looks tip top still.

Can anyone tell me what that little gear is for? Can I buy parts to repair these or are there other options using the stock c&p that would eliminate that gear and maybe some of the other pieces in there?

That is the ramp that applies the squeeze too the clutches that in turn lock the diff. Don't egnore this if you take care of it now you can pull the diff swap the ring gear and bearings too the new one and put it back in most likely with the same side shims. If it grenades you may have to replace ring and pinon, bearings, diff and it will require complete setup.

BTW the ring gear bolts are left hand thread!!!! Be sure the side shims go back in the same way they came out. Have extra shims on hand and some gear marking paint and check you contact pattern when finished. You shouldn't need the shims but check the pattern anyway.

Thanks for the advice.
Are there any other options out there than using this style of locker that would replace these parts?

if you got the cash go with a grizzly locker. I haven't had any luck finding parts for the G-80 go with something else...

I put a Dodge unit in mine and love it. I rode in a truck with a Grizzly and it popped and cracked in turns, if you don't think that will annoy you, I'm sure the Grizzly or some other locker would be stronger.

The little gear is one of the pieces that makes the G80 work. I have no idea how. Sorry, diffs are black magic to me.:hehe:

The guy to talk to about parts availability is member "1pieceatatime". Its what he does for a living. You might find its cheaper just to put a different unit in it.

I'm thinking a tru trac is the way to go. Anyone know the p/n for one so I can hit up the local Eaton dealer and price one out?

Ya from what I have read nobody wants to fix them as they are expensive and usually not worth it.

That's the p/n I got too.
Alligator is the only place I found it. Need to get off my phone - easier to search with the computer.

$1050 CDN plus shipping is the best I have found so far. Pretty sure the oil is going in and I will be running it for a few months till I can afford to swap it out. FWIW if I wasn't changing the cover I never would have known so fingers crossed it holds.

I've found the AAM helical diffs for $575. That's the factory dodge unit, and same design as the Trutrac. For half the price, I'd buy the AAM unit.

The gear that's broke in your pic, IIRC, is the drive gear for the fly weight that engages the diff locking. If that gear breaks or has a piece missing, it won't spin the actuator so no engagement.
