All right, I'm trying to get an idea what's broken on my 2002 Chevy Silverado 2500HD.
What started as a tire wobble (tires were at the end of their life) evolved into a wobble accompanied by a rhythmic metal scraping sound (continued regardless of whether I was braking or not, and seemed to be even more noticeable when turning either direction) coming from the front passenger wheel.
So last night I bought a new set of tires from America's Tire, and asked them to take a look at that front wheel while they were at it. They informed me that I had a broken brake pad, and just needed to get the brakes done. For some reason, the ABS light also came on following the tire replacement (I attributed it to the broken pad). There was no longer any tire wobble, and I drove away feeling better that the metal on metal scraping wasn't as serious as first thought.
Unfortunately, I barely made it 20 miles before my brakes suddenly stopped working (they sort of worked, but it was really difficult to slow down). After pulling over, I found smoke pouring out of the wheel well, and it appeared that something separated on the inside of the wheel (along with a tear in the CV joint boot). Who can tell me what's broken? Any chance I can limp it a few miles to a shop?
P.S. Sorry about the attached photo being upside down... Not sure why it did that.
