Just replaced my turbo on my 2003 lb7, updated the turbo and where the up-pipe bolts to the manifold i broke 1 of the 3 bolts off, sheared it right off to where it is stuck in the manifold. My question to you guys is this is a great excuse to throw a lml manifold on my driver side, but my truck has 200,000 plus miles on it and has been ran in the salt since 2004, manifolds are pretty rusty and so are the bolts, i am not so afraid of stripping a bolt head, but more afraid of breaking a bolt off in the head in the process of trying to swap it. Is their a trick to getting them out or just put a ratchet on them and run it and i will be okay, any opinions will be greatly appreciated.

Soak it with some penetrating oil ahead of time. I used a long 3/8 swivel head ratchet. 14 mm socket I believe.

i undestand penetrating oil an all, but if the threads and the actual bore that the bolt is in is all covered what good is the penetrating oil going to do if it i cant actually spray onto the bolt?

It doesn't do anything yet people spray the head of bolts all the time and think it actually did something. If you have a situation where you can see threads it works but otherswise your wasting your time. While I've had a lot of up pipe bolts want to break I've yet to have a issue with a manifold to head bolt breaking.

So, put a 1/2 inch air gun on it and hit off or do it with a good old ratchet and take it slow?

Air gun. It will vibrate it loose. Also penetrating oil will actually penetrate into the threads even though they are not visible but it take time to get a good soaking. The back of the thread are visible on the manifold uppipe bolts.

If it does break in the head you can always build up the stud with weld out to where you can weld a nut on to remove it. Can be done without pulling the head.
