44k on it now. The waterpump just blew. Belt is walking off the pulley; looks like bad shaft/bearing. Leaks like a sieve but at least he has level in the bottom of the bottle <wheew>.

He should be under warranty, but being tuned and deleted, I don't know if the stealership is going to void him on this or not

Looks like he can grab an OEM Cummins for $165 and labor doesn't seem hard for me to swap it for him.

Any tips or advice on this? Brian???

Thanks in advance

I think I can sneak it out with alt in place. Airbox is removed already; s363 swap when the turbo shit the bed at 25k  I wonder if I can go from underneath... I have huge ramps.

Change it from the top. Take the belt loose, pull the shroud forward and take the two bolts out..

Thanks. Will do. He's ordering parts and I'll swap it for him. My old man insists that the dealer will warranty it and tow it, but my bro in law wants to just swap it instead of risking getting a tow bill and down time and denied. Dunno what to tell him. I guess having it back ASAP is worth a lot to him.

Go to the local parts store and get a water pump for it.. Your over complicating this.. Literally the hardest part is the damn belt

May want to avoid carquest/advance auto water pumps for it. I did quite a few when I was working on trucks. And then did them again and again until I talked the boss into buying Cummins pumps.

Cummins belts are a bitch for sure

Are they really that tough on warranty when tuned? I know my gmc dealer could give a shit and neither could the ford dealers. Hell, the service mangers will tell you to delete them. Haha

Yes, Cummins part for sure; no aftermarket.

Overcomplicated - well, it's $200 that he sure could use in his pocket right now. But, I talked to him and he doesn't want to deal with the time and uncertainty of the dealer, so I said I'd do it for/with him.

Warranty - he has removed the EGR, and that is connected to the cooling system, as well as the turbo swap that cuts the coolant hardline and bleeder, etc. So... I dunno if they'd get pissy or look the other way. But as above, it doesn't matter now.

A phone call to the dealer would be a quick way to answer the question if he is good for warranty still or not.

I would too, but it's his truck and his call. Besides, I think he likes coming over and learning to wrench on his own ride I taught him ball joints at Christmas when they went on this heap, and did the turbo swap with him at 24k when that went. Before that I did the exhaust and deletes with him. He changes his own oil now.

I remember before I met his sister (my wife), I helped him when he stripped the drain bolt on his gsxr600. He was using a 1/2" wrench and gave it hell. He's come a long way.
