So wondering if anyone can help with some front end issues I'm having. On the pass side I get a constant metal on metal sound/rolling scraping type sound not sure if it's the brakes or a wheel bearing or what...no issues braking properly just makes that god awful sound...plus there's a large amount of brake dust on the front pass wheel yet none on the others...:confused:

Probably a stuck caliper, or maybe the inboard pad stuck in the bracket, and the pad is now wiped out. How scored is the inboard side of the pass side rotor?

Check the wheel bearings as well. My pads lasted 100k but Iv gone through 2 bearing sets. pulling and racing reeks havoc on them, there about $200 each:eek:

one way to check the wheel bearing is with the tire jacked up off the ground, grab the tire at "12" and "6" (top and bottom) and push in on one and out on the other to try and rock it back and forth. If there's much movement, go ahead and order up a new hub assembly.

Over in the DIY section, McRat has a GREAT how-to for replacing the hub.

Your problem seems more in line with a brake issue though to me. ;)

Good luck

Brakes

I just did the brakes on two dmaxs last night (mine and a buddies). HeyMccall's brake rebuild is very helpfull. My buddies truck had all four calipers/pads sticking). It wiped out both of his rear rotors (no pads whatsoever left on the inside) and the fronts were only grabbing about 50% of the surface of the front rotors. He hasn't driven it yet. I told him not to hit his head on the steering wheel when he first hits the brakes after driving so long with litterally no brakes. I am going to remove the sliders and clean and re-lube them at least twice a year now. The braking difference on my truck after following HeyMccall's instructions is like night and day.

Nice I'll definitely be using his thread to do mine. Just need to check the rears now too. But I suppose it can't be too bad. I'll be glad when I get it done.

I've always done both at the same time, usually if one is going the other probably isn't far behind.

eh not really. i have 90k when i replaced the RF. I now have 155k and have yet to replace the factory LF one. ive also had my kit on since the truck had 85k.

Guess thats just one of those things i picked up from helping my Dad in the garage when I was a kid.

3 of the rotors feel fine with no alarming brake dust but the pass front you can feel a large gouge in...so just gotta jack the truck up and see what the bearing looks like
