Block Heater Question

I replaced my OE block heater last year. The original fired right up as soon as it was plugged in. The new one only comes on at -18*C. Is there a way to bypass this and make it come on right away?

Change the cords if you still have the old one.

i just use a pan heater for mild weather and my block heater for the really cold weather

Haha I see what was done now to my old cord. The previous owner cut the plug off with the sensor and rewired a grounded 3 prong plug there. I wonder if I'd do the same that it'll work?
