So this truck I picked up needs some tires. I don't know if I will do wheels quite yet so for now lets just talk tires. It has the factory 17 inch wheels and I want to put some 33's on it. If I just cranked down the torsion bars could I fit something like a 285/70R17 on it?

factory wheels are 16's... unless they are the stock wheels on the LMM's they are 17's... I have run 285/75/16 BFG AT KO's on AR wheels and they rub like a mofo

i ran 295/70/17 toyo mt's on h2's on my 06. had about 4 turns on the t-bars and never heard them rub once. very good fit so i'm sure you will be fine with that size
i m runnin sme aftermarket wheels 16x7 on 265 75 16 bridgestones. the wheels stick out about 1 inch more than the stockers did. i trimmed my fenders because they rubbed bad and still rub when i drop my torsion bars....i thin k offset has more to do than the tire size

It all depends on your offset, stock is ~20mm POSITIVE.
If you go with a negative offset, you're putting the tire out there further and with the extra leverage you're gonna run into rubbing problems w/o a lift/level if you go with a tire that's got any size to it at all.

yes, the 285/70/17 will fit with just some cranking on the torsion bars.......I don't have any problems at all...........

315/70/17's fit nicely on my truck with no lift
i can also drop my torsion bars and go pulling just cant turn the wheel too far or i will rip off my fender flares..

i ran 315/75/16's for a while and somehow got away with it. had bars cranked to the max and trimmed a decent amount but they only rubbed at full lock

If you're looking to lower the front a bit, you can run a 285/70 17 (32.8 inches) on H2's with a little trimming of the valence and the bars cranked all the way down. You will also need to zip tie the e-brake cable and do a little pounding with a hammer to knock the inner fender well back a bit. A couple of zip ties on the front of the inner fender well will keep that from rubbing as well.
There may be a little more room to go bigger, but not much over 33 inches.

I am thinkin of going up to the Nitto LT305/70R/17 E.
