Mike,

I have a customer that dropped off his truck with what sounded like a bad transfer case. We put it on the hoist and the t case sounds bad too, but we dropped the trans pan just in case and it is full of shavings and chunks. Pulled the spin on filter and the magnet was covered in shavings. Fluid is orange and burnt badly. It will move forward and reverse but limps into 3rd, and clunks like hell into or out of gear. Any ideas? Pulls a P0700, P0872, P0847.

Thanks

Chad

question: stuck valves will cause metal shavings? will there not be drivability problems?

Stuck valves are a result of metal shavings. With the codes posted there were drivability problems. As far as where the metal came from; tear down will answer that question.

Yes severe drivability problems. I barely made it up the slope into the shop. Thanks for the help Mike.

Went with a dealer unit>??? Is the truck stock>???

Mild tow tune that's it. The owner lent it to someone for the weekend and the kid had it in 4wd and it wouldn't come out then something let loose.

I talked to the owner and he didn't want to spend the money for a build and new parts, so he decided to have us get one from the dealer and r&r it. He will be selling the truck at the end of the summer, and didn't want to spend the cash...

They arent going to rebuild it. I was going to do it this weekend but the guy went with a new stock allison instead after he saw the shavings in the pan.
