(Problem #1) EFI Live is not stupid proof, and I'm stupid. :D

Now that we've cleared up the simple stuff, I have a V2 that isn't working. One day it does work, the next day it doesn't. SO, I plug in the V2 into a truck, everything is fine, things light up. I plug it into the computer, and I get a "USB Device Not Recognized" Little thing that pops up.

That's all I know. I have tried copying and pasting drivers here and there and I didn't get anywhere. I also tried updating drivers with no luck. My computer devorced my V2, and I'ma one mad hombre.

If someone would care enough to tell me I'm stupid and walk me through what I did wrong, I would greatly appreciate it. I am sure Mr. Tripp get's tired of talking to me. I seem to call the man when he's swamped and end up putting him atleast another 1/2 behind schedule and since this isn't an emergency yet, I thought I would post on here.

Did you try nuking the drivers using FTClean.exe located in "C:\Program Files\EFILive\Drivers\Utilities\FTClean" (C:\Program Files (x86)\EFILive\Drivers\Utilities\FTClean if you're using 64 bit XP or Vista)? If not, try running it, restart your PC (Probably not required, but it won't hurt), then plug up your V2, and when it asks for drivers, tell it to use the drivers in "C:\Program Files\EFILive\Drivers\EFILive\Win-2K-XP-Vista" (again, C:\Program Files (x86)\EFILive\Drivers\EFILive\Win-2K-XP-Vista if running 64-bit).

I had a problem like that a while back where my V2 started acting stoopid when connected to my PC and FTClean fixed it.

I checked on the EFI Forum. I didn't see one that related exactly to my situation, but tried things in there that I thought might help.

I have 1 gig, and no music, and only a few pictures. About 150 different EFI tunes though.:D Otherwise a blazing fast computer like usual.

Well, I called Guy today it sounds like I somehow fried the USB side of my V2. I'll keep you posted.

He said a power inverter surge can do this or simply installing a USB card backwords can do this. If I was to guess, my situation is probably the power inverter. IDK

It is getting sent to Guy first thing tomarrow.

Hopefully I can get this thing back on it's feet.

What brand of laptop is it? If it's an HP, I'd suggest you get their AC/DC power adapter (HP P/N ED993UT). I THINK Dell and IBM have similar AC/DC adapters. That way you won't have to worry about the extra draw of the inverter.

I've had problems with the cables and connectors on the V2. Try hooking up to the truck and just the V2. Then wiggle the cable and watch the disply on the V2. Then try the same with the usb cable and the laptop.

My V2 has been used so much, if you blow on it while loading, it will quit. Most likely a connector/cable issue.

I have a gateway computer ..... I didn't order it, I bought it through Best Buy and to my surprise it has been a dang good computer.

Let me know about ac/dc power inverter, I am willing to try anything at this point. I need to keep this thing "on the road" so to speak. No pun intended. LOL

Mine has been used a ton too. I had the cable from the truck to the V2 replaced once. It was temperature sensative. If it was cold, it would work fine, if it warmed up a little, it would quit. So I started keeping it in the freezer. I never found wiggling to work. I tried a different V2 (miniUSB) to USB cord, and it didn't help me at all. BTW the V2 to USB is the same as most new printer cables. ;)

We'll see what Guy thinks when he gets it. It got sent in the mail this morning USPS.

I am getting to the point that I cringe ever time I plug into a truck I seem to cause damage. LOL blown turbos, trannies, etc. etc.
