Which street tire would be best for drag racing? Good price, soft compound, 16" wheel???

Not planning on running drag radials...

Darius is telling me he can get 275/70/16 Toyo Proxes for $110/pc for me. Good tire for a 12.20 or better CC truck?

Also, if anyone knows where I can find 2 more Centerline Python wheels, 16x8, 8x6.5 BC with 4.5 BS, I'd love to hear from you. Those wheels have been discontinued, thats why I ask. Otherwise, I'm going to have to run the old PY0s.

Interesting. If they are still available come Christmas, they may be a possiblility.

Those tires got me thinking about another question, though...

What SIZE tire is the best for drag racing? A tire with a height similar to the OEM 245/75/16's or closer to a 265/75/16?

Tom,

What about Stingpuller's tire and wheels? I know he has some listed and is moving to slicks I'm guessing. I know he's been in the 11s.

Shorter seems to be better until you go past 124mph. Then the gearing that taller tires provides helps.

So the difference in height between the 245 and 265 really doesnt hurt a truck at the top end of the track, but will improve 60's times? Hmmmm....

Sting's 285s are the exact same height as the OEM 245s, thats why I asked. The 275/70s are about 1/2" shorter than 265/75s.

M&H's are really out of the question...I'd like to do this on "street" tires.

I've gone 1.648 60' with my "tiny" M&H's on stock PYO's. They hook really hard and don't even chirp. Saved a bunch of cash because I could use the stock rim's. I would not even try and drive around on them though. They might see 2k mi. before they were bald. I do get some funny looks with the 4" lift @ the track:eek:

Pat mentioned something in another thread about using winter tires for dragracing. Granted, they are a softer compound, but is he serious? If so, what brand would you recommend? Firestone is making a new, ultracheap Winterforce tire. LOL

Yeah, thats probably what I'll end up with. 275/70/16 is what I'm looking at. Ive found them online for $125/ea shipped to me. I'll have to ask my tire guy on the route if he can do better.

Wanted to try one last time this year to break Moss's LB7 record. Needed some better tires to do it, though. Those LTXs are just too hard, esp when its colder out.

You can still find ST's on Ebay and thru tire wholesalers. Toyo just isnt making them in mass quantities anymore.

What ya think?

Its a place called "group-a" wheels. Its an Ebay auction. Shipping is $80 to Michigan.

Yes, the STs are discontinued in favor of ST2's. But you can still find the tires out there.

Matt, is the 275 size what you bought? Thanks for the pics.
