Whats worked good for you guys as far as sealing polished aluminum? Im getting started on my wheels refinishing them and need a sealant other than Zoop. Too damn expensive and not feeling the 2 part application.

Well getting to that point isnt easy either. This is the second time Ive done this shit. I didnt seal it first time with anything worth noting......just a wax sealer and its lasted maybe a month.

What Ive dont up to this point is take the wheels off and wash em. Then I take 1500 grit wet sand paper and sand the whole wheel by hand in every nook and cranny. After Im happy with that I dry it off and let sit. Then I put my buffing wheel (Harbor Freight kit for like $20-$30. I HATE Harbor Freight but even them cant screw this up..lol). I use 3M rubbing compound and buff the whole wheels out. Becareful your drill doesnt knick the metal though....ask me how I know :D After its buffed out sometimes it will look awesome or sometimes it will have very slight imperfections and Im anal about that so I then use a polishing compound to get the rest out. If that doesnt get it then I go back with a 2000+ grit paper and re polish. Its ball busting work but if this sealer works it will be well worth it. I seen some today that had been applied to sheet metal HVAC ducting and you could bend it all the way without cracking or anything. Also was brushed on and its smooth as can be. Must have some kind of leveler in it. Ive look at Zoop also but it needs re applied every year or 2 so Im not liking that.

I may try some VHT clear today on the one I got done since it Im going to wait till it gets warmer to do my others and seal it probably. IDK I'll figure something out and let you know ;)

See none of this would happen if Tims tight ass would come off his damn rims!

I wish I didn't have clear coat (eagle super finish) I have no idea how to clean mine. They only look good from standing about 20 feet away. Once you seal them you better wash them every week or they will get pretty ugly then youll have to strip off the coating and do it all over again.

I dont want Zoop because you have to refinish it every couple years. This shit stays for life. Thats what I want....low maintenance. I want to be able to clean like my chrome wheels on my S10. I look like some damn hillbilly now cause I put the clean one back on and left the dirty ones due to time. Kinda like the brothas you see rolling around on one wire wheel and they other 3 are on lay a way. :D

Ill find out tomorrow night when I may have time to do this. I need to find a time where I have at least a day or so to refinish them all and then another 2-3 days to let them sit while they are curing. They are moisture cured so I may wait until spring. Either way if you subscribe it I will post what the results are. Time is the only issue at this point....as usual.
