Dad git his 2013 last year as a new left over. Truck is excellent and he loves it, but the brakes make a huge mess on the wheels and side of the truck.

The entire truck is covered in brake dust after just a short trip through town, we are wondering if there is a better option, the truck stops great but he cant stand the constant dust.

Are the yellow pads or blue pads or whatever any good? Anyone have any good recomendations

This doesn't sound normal to me for stock brakes..at work we have an lmm with 107k that still has stock brakes. My lbz has stock brakes and neither dust any more than average. Does the truck stop normally? Is it equally dusty side to side? Maybe frozen caliper causing excessive dusting..

If they have Akebono available for that truck I wouldn't hesitate.

All I run in any of my cars.

Truck stops excellent for being disc/drum. But the truck is just covered in a fine black/brown dust. He is a clean freak and the truck doesnt go down dirt roads or see rain hardly.

I keep telling him its probably what we call rail dust. Being there is a very busy rail head about 10 miles away. And if a truck sits long enough it will look like the truck is rusting if it rains.

He is convinced new pads will fix this, his money i rekon. I just want to get him the best out there

Don't those truck come with ceramic pads stock?

http://www.akebonobrakes.com

There is a catalog there. They make a lot of oem stuff too. I've even ordered them at advance auto parts.

Something doesn't seem right, I've never seen a GM truck from the 2000's with much of a brake dust problem, the pads are very hard and last a very long time. What % pad life does he have left and does it compare well to his mileage.

Also, since when does a 2013 still come with drum brakes on the rear, I seen thousands of GM trucks in the very early 2000's with rear disc.

They went back to rear drum in 07 with the body change.

The pads arent all that worn, disks look good. It is bizzare we see alot of fords around here with terrible brake dust issues and our old 90's Chevys had dust issues.

The truck just turned 26k on mileage i just checked. Its all highway and pulling the boat, very strange

They did and I can't think of a good reason why.

Calipers and hardware equally dirty or just the wheels?

If everything is covered then change them and see what happens. Maybe you got a bad batch. Weirder things have happened.

Front suspension is dirty but not like you would think with how bad the wheels and body gets.

As for switching back to the drum, they had a lot of issues with the rear disc on the 1/2 tons with parking brakes and rocks getting in them and eating them up. They also found out the 1/2 tons stopped as well or better with rear drums. Our little 2000 short Silverado has been through 3 sets of parking brake shoe/band things.

Yeah they do. Can crank them hard enough to bend the dust cover and they still won't hold this thing on a hill.

Line lockers?

Have you seen the little brake shoe thing if u can call it that... Its a joke i guess in the 2500 and larger trucks the rotor is big enough to form a larger drum for the parking brake, i have never even had to work on one

Not that it matters, but I think the swap to read drums was 2006. It could have been earlier, but I know for certain they had drums in 06 because my dad has one.
