I admit I was a bit jealous that the wifes jetta has the heated/cooled glove box and the truck doesnt. And to make it worse, she doesnt even keep a mini bar in it:confused:
So I took a look at it and did the same to the truck

Here it is: The Beer/Whiskey cooler & hot lunchbox mod

Parts needed:
4 - 1 inch rubber grommets
super glue
1 inch drill bit
car wax

Drill the 1 inch hole and stick the rubber grommet in it.

Super glue another rubber grommet to it.

Pinch one of the rubber grommets into the hole so it sticks out a little and dab a bit of wax on it.

Close the glove box so the wax marks center location of the hole. Reopen and remove the marker grommet

Drill another 1 inch hole in the back of glove box and insert rubber grommet

Super glue last rubber grommet to the one on the glovebox.

No mention of this when I was over the other day huh. Surprised you didn't turn the center counsel into a cooler has more room. Good for long trips in the summer and throw in a couple bottles of water or pop in there.

I got the bench seat, not the fancy center consol stuff.
I was distracted trying to figure out how to do a jetta tdi race without the wife seeing us.

That's pretty funny! Did you just tap in to the blower motor, or is that one of the ducts?

its the main duct or line thingy that runs across the cab under the dash. It blows pretty good thru the 1 inch hole. Not sure if it will go off the pass or driver side temp tho

Hot testing failed. So I had to redesign it

here is version 2

For version 2 you will need to pop out a vent
Like this:

I used the one next to the radio

Then take apart the vent:

Next get a Hose barbed elbow and drill a hole in the bottom of the inside vent piece. I used 1/2 inch. I wouldnt use bigger, and a smaller hose may work better. 1/2" will block the full swing of the diverter inside the vent

Leave the hose barb in the vent piece loose, and slide it back in the dash. Run the hose from the glove box area over to the vent and put it on the barb nice and tight.

I put another elbow on the end just to help direct the hot/cold air into the box.

Reattach the outer vent piece.

Enjoy cold drink at your destination.

Testing will begin soon. Should have full hot & cold control this time

I had a friend who rerouted the windshield washer tubbing into his glove compartment on a 69. then stored his whiskey in the washerfluid container under the hood. it worked fine, open it up set your glass under the hose and hit the windshild washers. just about a shot. ha ha
I do have one of those 12 volt refrigrators in the truck. it will heat or cool either one, and a 6 pack will fit perfectly.
