Out of the country for another week. Crunching numbers to see if I can put 3 atv on top of the pickup bed with a hitch extension to support the 3rd ATV.
What is the length of the bed (long bed) from the front of the box, not inside and the back edge of the tail gate, not inside. I.e. a bed cover type length which covers the entire bed not just the inside.
Diamond back truck covers has a two atv cover for a long bed. They also make an extension to fit two atv on a short bed

I'm wondering if I could put the extension on a long bed and fit 3 atv. Or, make a hitch extenion to support the two atv wheels that would hang off the top of the bed. If they hang off the bed, then I'd need a hitch extenion of the proper length. I have a Torquelift hitch that will take 14,000 lbs and 1,400 tongue at the end of 24 inches. So, I'd be able to carry 3 atv and a travel trailer all at the same time. No, I don't want a toy hauler.

You would get 2 on but if they are 500cc or bigger, that's it. Your allowable weight on the truck would likely be too high with three going by an average of 650lbs a piece plus the weight of the atv/sled deck. I think we can only haul like 1500lbs'ish on a 1 ton but don't quote me on that.

And plus a travel trailer-may as well just call yourself Ted Clampett!!

Wow, you're way way off on the weight capacity. I currently carry a 5,500 lb truck camper in the bed. Three ATV wouldn't even put this on the overloads. People routeenly carry 4,000 +. Since I'm rated at 11,500 and the truck weighs about 7400, factory says I can carry 4,000.

If I'm not mistaken, most full size ATVs are close to 48" wide. That would pretty much put all of one past the back of the truck. Maybe if you loaded two of them straight on from the back and another one across from the side.

Your right-not sure what I was thinking there.:screwy::dunce:

I have a buddy that loads 2 sideways and they are both 650 Can-Am's-Big Bikes. This is on his F-350 long box. But to put a 3rd behind that wouldn't work on his truck. His 3rd unit would be completely off the back of the truck. Like Josh said most of the bigger bikes are about 48" - 52" wide depending on the rims and tires.

How big of an atv are we talking here? I could see a smaller machine on a rack over the cab working like dozerboy suggested. Or if it is a smaller machine maybe something off of the back of the trailer???

I remember over on dp a while ago a guy posted pics of his setup. iirc he had a dually and put one quad in the bed then had two sitting right behind the bed side by side. He added lights to the extender since they covered up the taillights. Ill see if i can find the pic.

The long bed is 97 inches long inside, and side and tailgate are 17-18 inches tall, iirc, with tailgate down, would be 97+17+gap to be safe=114-115" long.

My sportsman 700, any sportsman, in stock form is 46-47 inches wide, on paper I think you could get 2 side by side across the bed and then support half of the 3rd with tailgate and build rack like the pic to support the other half 23-24" supporting from the hitch.

I would hate to manhandle my 700, it's gotta be 750-800 lbs.

If I have time, I will measure tonight and correct measurements.

Bill.
