I'm looking to buy a lift, who here has bought one? If so what model, did you buy new or used, and where did you find it? I'm looking for a used one preferably. What can I expect to spend?

We have a 12,000lb BendPac at the shop at my parents. Has the 3 sectional extending arms and is way overbuilt for a 12,000lb lift. We looked into it and the only difference between the 12k and 15k setups was the pressure regulator in the pump.

The 3 piece arms are great as they work well for the tiniest VW Bug all the way up to 4 door long bed 1ton trucks.

First question is 4 post or 2 post.

2 post requires 6" of good concrete.

4 post can be portable (mine is).

I nearly dropped Casper on the 2 post I had (black slime on frame allow truck to move), so I went to 4 post. But with 4 post, you can't pull off wheels unless you have a trolley.

If you go Bendpak 4-post, you will need at a minimum, the HD-9 with extra wide, extra long (XW?). Order the wheel kit with it, and you can move it. Probably get a trolley lift option too.

I would go 2 post, even though I have always found them a little sketchy for the long trucks like we have.

From my 2-Post Dmax experience, get highest weight rating you can afford. Mine was 11,000lb (Chinese Pounds), and it was iffy for my CC/LB which is 8,000lb. The 9000lb 4 post is OK, but the 11k 2 post was risky.

I got some cheap adjustable tall stands (about $100 each), and put them under it when I had it up in the air for wrenching.

my 7000lb Rotary lifts my truck up with zero issues and has for years, i bought it out of my dealership when we moved to a new building. but if i could do it again i would have gotten a 10k so i could do ford and dodge crap.

I have used Bendpak and i am definitely not a fan, i lifted a CCLB Duramax on one and after re positioning it about 5 times and having other techs help position it it would not lift flat and ended up falling off the lift after about 6" off the ground, i just don't think they are stable enough but thats my own experience. i will only ever use/buy Rotary as long as i live.

We have a Bendpak XPR10A at the shop that gets used 7 days a week with at least one truck on it a day with no issues so far. The price on them is right and they work well.

As far as I can tell, there are 2 kinds of Bendpak lifts around. American and Chinese. My 4 post is Chinese. But I've seen American Bendpaks and they appear to be built like tanks.

To add to this, We used our heads and poured a 24"W x 24"L x 12"D reinforced pad under each leg instead of using the recommended 4" thickness...we used 4000psi mix too and 16" of extremely compacted processed gravel as a sub base for our entire floor.

I have a lift from Greg smith too. I think it's the pro park 9000 also. I really like it. Will probably buy another

My dually barely fits under it. I never put it on top but I put my 1/2 ton SS on top with no issue. I have 15' high ceilings though.

I'm not sure what thickness my floor is, just bought the place. Would it make any sense to pour a 6" pad at each leg and dowel it into the existing slab? This is assuming the existing slab is only 4" or so.
