Autocal NEWB questions

So i picked up a used autocal from a local guy that was originally from Idaho Rob. This guy told me the autocal was unlinked from robs v2. so i bought it and started messing with it trying to do some data logging with no luck.

Does the autocal need to be licensed to my truck/tuners v2 before it will let me do anything with it on my truck?

Im starting to think its not actually unlinked from robs v2 because it still has some licensing stuff on it that i wasnt sure what it was. When i first plugged the autocal into my laptop i found a screen that said unlink from selected something or other....but now i cant find it.

If i try to do anything all i get is a $0281...i updated it to everything current and still no luck.

Whats my problem here?

It would need to be un-linked by Rob and then it would need linked to your V2 and configured for it to work. It also needs a license to tune.

i just got off the phone with this guy and he says he sent it to rob and they "cleared it and unlinked it". he said they had it for a week. So i guess i need to have my tuner look at it and link it up/configure it.

I watched kory willis' youtube video on how to data log with an autocal, I had no PIDs or anything loaded onto it.

Here is the serial number off the Autocal 4003655896...is there anyway dustin can look up the serial number and see if it actually was unlinked?

You should be able to make a pid selection, open efilive explorer, bottom left should show tune and scan folders. Drag your pid selections (after you saved them) to the scan folder. Make sure autocal is hooked up of course. Also if you are wanting to connect it to your v2 have both of them connected to your computer and it should be in v8 software. Can't remember off the top of my head how to do it.

Also it will need another license for your truck if you want to use it to tune your truck. I believe they can tune up to 5 vehicles.

I was going to license it whenever the next time i get revised tunes is, until then i just want to data log and stuff with it. but if it needs to be licensed before i can even use it then i guess i will need to license it right away.

Just to tune it you will need a license, you can data log by doing what I described though kinda like black box logging

ok thanks for the help. Im meeting my tuner at industrial injection on tuesday so he can configure it and license it. Im going to go mess with it some more right now. Had to take a break for a few, the woman wanted to go on a walk. damn her.

I can get the autocal to auto detect my ecm and tcm no problem but that's about all I can get it to do. If I try anything from the autocal itself instead of pass through mode, I just get the $0281 every time. It's up to date and cig lighter fuse is good.

I'm hopeless.

Where my mouse (and finger) is should show some folders with your autocal connected

If those are there then find your pid selection you wanted to use (after you saved it) and drag it to the scan folder

Homie, you have to make your pid selection in v8 scan & tune and then program it in! The "scan" folder only holds the datalogs recorded with the autocal while it is used as a standalone.

Ya I know you have to make your pid selection in scan and tune but to get it on the autocal I drag it over to the scan folder? I've done two autocals and that's how I Remember doing it. Or maybe that was just how you put the tunes on it? Crap now you making me feel dumb! It's been a long night... That's my excuse. Lol.

Haha I think because I had it already set up before is why it worked! Don't feel dumb, I still don't have my transfer case in for the Denali to go to Ennis tomorrow and the POS may not even come in tomorrow.... How lovely. Fresh set of 100% exergy injectors in it, ford healthy and happy... And it randomly blows the freaking transfer case. I feel dumb! Lol

Get that Denali goin! I wish it would have made a 11 second pass last year in April that would have been awesome. Hopefully tomorrow I'll get to see what the new motor can actually do since every other event has got rained out! Plus I'll get to play with my home made lockup switch!

So me and v8 apparently dont get along that well. i uninstalled all efi live software off my laptop and reinstalled.

Talked to a buddy and fired up the ol' v7.5 and BAM data logging galore. Works like a champ. I even successfully saved the data log too! Damn I feel like a pimp right now figuring this out.

I guess im not so hopeless after all.

Is there any sure way to physically tell if the autocal has been unlinked from robs v2? I think the reason im getting the $0281 error if trying to use the autocal itself instead of pass through mode is because I havent had it configured for my truck/lly yet?? Seems like it is still configured for an E35 lbz...

I had a screen that said "unlink from controller" or something similar but now i cant find that screen...

If it is unlinked when powered on it will say "FS2 Link Required"

Once it is linked the screen will say "Display DTCs" when it is powered on.

I don't remember it ever saying fs2 link required. It just goes straight to the dtc screen. But last night once I re installed efi live on my computer it had me pair some cable with it before the efi live software would work..if I'm explaining that right.
