I wasnt really sure which section to put this...Ill try here.

I do not know much about snow plows and was wondering if I could get some info on what are the most popular manufacturers/models of snow plows for these trucks.

Western? Meyer? Fisher? Etc..??

What plow setup do you guys all use? And what model? Im working on a different style of plow controller and I want to get an idea of what is the most popular brand/model so I can start with R&D for that particular plow.

Thanks
Ben

Boss seems to be the choice around here. Most run V-plows as well. What kind of gadgets are you working on for a plow?

We have a 9'2 boss v plow. I love it and its been good to us since we got it in 07. Came from a 8' western straight blade.

I think the western and boss are about the same quality but I've heard the westerns have better lights.

I run a western 8.6' v blade poly board new in 08 never had any major problem and it gets abused my opinion the western probably the best all around for price and the standard features

I guess the better questions would be, could everyone please tell me how many pins the plug on their controller has?

4? 6? or 10?

I haven't tried sno-way yet but loved my fisher mm2 vplow compared to my boss v and my straight western. All are fast but the fisher had more pressure.

I use western for a couple reasons:

more than one parts store is open 24/7 during a storm

boss mounts hang too low for the off roading i do

all my friends run western so we can take a plow/part off one truck and put it on another.

Murphy's law only applies during a storm. I've never had any need to buy parts in the middle of the night but it's nice to know the option is there.

I have a 6 pin controller, you'll see a 10 pin controller on a V plow that has to do a couple more functions over a straight blade.

I use an 8 foot Boss straight poly blade. Really like it its fast moving and rarely lets you down. very easy to install as well no drilling just bolts up and run the harness. It lifts its self up on the truck

I run a western 8'6 V have a six pin connector for the controller, not sure how much of the parts they share with fisher, but both are made by douglas dynamics...Typically see Boss and Western in my area

For the best bang for your buck ben , Fisher and western are the same plow, I.e. same manufacturer. They share the same wiring and hydraulics, only difference is the mount and mold board. They also just bought blizzard. Western straight plows will work on a v plow harness as well. If it were me I would consider the western an boss plows.
