So I was thumbing through the latest Diesel Power again and normally when I see purple on a page I get a cold shiver and keep flipping. I did notice however on this particular page that they were advertising their clutches with an oiling notch cut into them in the gear tooth area. Any thoughts Mike on if this actually helps anything? Does anyone have any experience with these clutches with results to comment on?

Just curious.....

ATS C3/C4 clutches have no oil slots in them so they try to get oil to the clutches somehow. They cut 6 internal notches on the internal lip of the apply piston hoping to leak fluid out of the piston cavity up the ring gear splines and through the missing teeth and lubricate from the inside.
To make this idea somewhat successful you need to use some killer lining and steel plates because you don't really get enough fluid to the clutches this way.
I have never had any successes with these clutches and won't use them.

That sounds to me like if you weren't 100% bang on with the size of the holes in your piston, or have really cold oil you risk a chance if having a low piston hydraulic pressure to apply the force against the clutches or not enough oil to properly lube them. The lower portion of the ring may get a little oil but I doubt it would be enough for the outer 50% + portion of the clutch. Kinda gay looking idea IMO.........that's why I asked.
