First off, I HATE the OEM 17's. I think they look terrible....but...I made the mistake of buying snow tires for them last year, so I'm stuck with them for a couple more years in the winter until I wear out this set of tires. I have no desire to buy aftermarket 17's...eventually I plan to run snow tires on my OEM 18's in the winter and run the OEM 20's in the summer.

That being said, I think I want to try to plasti-dip the recessed parts and the caps black, and leave the "top" surface as-is, which would be the lip all the way around and the 5 spokes. Anyone tried this with the OEM 17's and have pics to share? Or other paint jobs on these wheels?

I did the stock denali wheels on the wife's truck. Have held up great many car washes and a 1new England winter so fa with no touch ups. I did bake them and cleaned the wheel with a cleaner/prep material. If you do it post pics. I want to do something with the wheels on my wife's suburban. But don't want them all black. Plasti dip has a gun metal color and you can add a clear coat to it which is what I'm leaning towards

Well I had all day today with nothing to do, so I decided to give it a shot. I'm happy with the look of the wheels so far. The one thing I'm not super happy with is that in order to keep the plasti-dip from peeling off the wheel when I removed the masking tape, I had to cut it with my box cutter, so the edges are kinda rough. I'm going to run them like this for awhile, and if I decide I really like it I'll peel the plasti-dip off and actually paint them.

Anyway, what do you guys think? I was torn over whether or not I should do the center caps, decided to go ahead and do them, and if I want I can peel it off later.

I think you did a nice job and it looks good! I don't think anyone truly believes Plastidip is a long term decision or fix for that matter. It is a nice, easy option that allows one little consequence should he change his mind.

You dont sleep much, do you?

I have no idea what GM was thinking with the Chevy wheel design b/c nothing can make those 07+ Chevy wheels look good. Calling them bland is a compliment.
What you did at least makes them interesting.

Not anymore, lol...had a baby girl Friday night last week :) I think my projects are going to slow down quite a bit now!

And yes, these are terrible wheels. Hoping to make them just different enough that they are tolerable in the winter.
