I have a 2002, 2500HD with 185,000 miles. I have read several responses for the Duramax Smoke problem. I have the same problem. I have white smoke (only at Idle and low RPM), and it has a faint smell of diesel, I pulled my oil dipstick and found diesel in my oil. At first, I thought it was the injectors as well, I had the injectors tested and found the pressure was at 2 and it should be at 0 (at-lease I was told that), so the GMC dealer changed my fuel filter and flushed the line. While at the dealer, the smoke did stop, until I drove the truck 10 miles, then it started again. My truck runs good, and I have been pulling a lot of trailers over the years (big trailers). I have not lost any oil or coolant, and my truck has no signs of leaks anywhere under the hood, no cracks or signs of any head-leaks.

Can anyone help me out with this. I am tired of spending money and no-one fixing the problem. If the engine is shot, I will trade it in. I hear all kinds of opinions from valve job to blown head gasket. Any one with experience?

I'm getting pretty sick of heariung about dealers jacking people around and lieing out of there asses. The fuel filter doesn't even touch the oiling system how would it mix fuel????????????!!!!!!!!!!! You need injectors and as said a new freakin dealer. Also you should post the name of the dealer on line so NO-ONE ever buys anything from them.

Your right about the dealer, It was Joe Gibbs in Palm Coast, FL. Not sure they what they were thinking, They told me they tested the injectors and all is well. More on the high side of people telling the same thing, need new injectors, so I am going to go that rout. Others have said, valve job, that the valve seats need replaced, that is how diesel is getting into the oil. Not sure that is true, any thoughts?. Also, any idea where I can buy injectors cheaper then a dealer?.

Very unlikely that you need a vavle job with 185,000 miles. Maybe if you had 2-4 times those miles I could see it. Your injectors are gonners, only other thing it could be is head gasket compression would tell you that.

I guess I should have a compression test done first. Then go from there. Thanks everyone for the great advice, You probable saved me alot of money. If I can't get it right I will trade it in.
