Anyone know about extended choke tubes?

I'm not really concerned with the turkey chokes they call long range waterfowl choke tubes, but say a regular pattern like a modified. Is it worth it to buy an extended tube? Or are they just a marketing ploy? Looking for you serious waterfowlers and sporting clay guys to chime in.

Not so much a tighter pattern. Just wondering if the extended can keep the same pattern together longer if that makes sense

I have used the patternmaster choke tube and really liked it. BUT be careful with what shells you fire thought these or any other chokes. Some shells it says do not use with certain choke tubes. And vise versa.

One day goose huntin i came up to shoot and a wad got hung in the end of the barrel and on the next shot it almost blew the barrell apart. It blew a big bubble in the barrel and cost me about $400 to get it fixed.

Were you shooting a full choke :D? A friend of mine got his stuck and had to have it drilled out shooting a full

I was shootin the pattern master long range choke tube. It took two pipe wrenchs and a pair of vise grips to get the choke out. I just shoot Mod. and Ipv. chokes now and have great luck shootin Federal Black Cloud am. threw them. No. 4 buck shot works well to:D

Patternmaster, Pure Gold, Briley and Kicks are all good waterfowl choke tubes. I shoot a Pure Gold in my Benelli, my muddy I hunt with all the time shoots a Patternmaster in his Browning and another buddy shoots a Kicks in his browning. All extended range and long range tubes. They sell an improved cylinder, modified and full in all of the brands.

I can tell you this.....I shoot both the improved cylinder and modified Pure Gold in my Benelli and love it. I saw my buddy with the patternmaster full choke fold a teal down towards the coast here in NC from about 80 yards with one shot. I've seen him miss at closer ranges before too of course....but they are difinitely worth the money IMO for keeping the pattern tighter at longer ranges.

But it all depends on where you hunt too.......

You hunt a swamp where the birds are dropping in dang near on top of you with no more than 20 yard shots....you can use your improved cylinder that came with the gun all day long.

But yes....they are well worth the money IMO.....:thumb:

I put a adjustable True Glow on my browning gold turkey gun last year and took it duck hunting and it shot awsome. i ended up using it for about half the season because it could shoot the 3 1/2 goose loads. in my benelli i shoot a pattern master and i can fold birds at 50+ yards ,and clays 70+easely when we shoot them over the valley

Will that patternmaster totally destroy birds over decoys at 20yds? That's the big downer

yes it can but it also depends what # you are shooting . 20 yards is not to far where we hunt there are lots of long bomb shots if we see something at 20 yards we spook it up or let it get some distance since we shoot full-extra full. I like to bring 2 choaks with me depending on the day if its fog im shooting improvede.

I use an extra full for deer hunting, alot tighter pattern than full with 3" 000 Buck
keeps the pellets on the target at 100 yards was only getting 5 or 6 with full

Polychoke...they were popular in the old fixed choke guns, alot of valuable guns were ruined by these.

As far as sporting clays...the extended chokes are to lengthen the barrel for a more consistant pattern and for forward weight on the gun for a better balance/swing.

I don't know anything about waterfowl hunting...well other than if a group of ducks fly off the pond when your cockbird hunting you shoot in the middle and one falls down, now its on the wall :D
