LBZ: Anyone ever see a tire break a cord like this?

I got a nail in one of my Goodyear Wrangler MTR's and went to get it fixed. Tire guy showed me where it appears that I have three broken chords in my tire and that they wouldn't repair it. I've never had a broken cord that didn't crack the tire or make a bulge at least. Makes me wonder what my other three tires look like. These tires haven't been overly abused other than exceeding the rated speed limit like most of us do.

thats not "a cord", it would be multiple cords if that really is what you say. the cords are very small in a tire. ive seen all kinds of strange things happen to a tire when i worked at discount tire. seen a tire separate to the inside and never would have known it till you took it off the rim. looked like a tube inside

Oh I though those ridges where cords.
You do agree the tire is starting to separate though and it's junk? Those marks are 1/2"x 1/8".

you may need to circle what you are talking about. i thought you were talking about the blemish that is sticking through/up.

those ridges are just rubber that are casted into the tire to help release it from the mold. you have to grind DEEP into that rubber to hit cords.

as long as it dont leak air out of that little blemish and there isnt anything from the other side of the tire that has jammed into it to make that, id run the hell out of it. nothing concerning based on those pics. you can take a razor blade and cut that blemish to see what there, its not going to put a hole in the tire or weaken it. if there is a nail or something, it should be plugged/patched regardless

Moved to Wheels and Tires.

Is it like that the whole way around the tire? Did you ever run that tire at lower pressures?

The spot circled is about 1/2" long and 1/8" wide. It's an indentation at least 1/16" into the tire but less then 1/8". There are 3 of them around the tire. No other signs of damage to the tire. I miss spoke the tire guy called it "exposed cords". I didn't see anything in the indentations. I though the cords had maybe broken and it was pulling apart causing the indentation, but not yet a tear. I had the tire fixed and mounded at another shop so I can get my truck off the jackstands.

Sounds to me like another rip off chain garage trying to crap you out of more and more and more and more and more etc etc money every time you pay a visit.

Two of the factory equipment Goodyears on my LML broke belts within 300 miles of each other. Both of them developed a bulge in the tread that caused a vibration.

I can't identify your problem from the pictures. I didn't see the inside of my tires, I just had them replaced right away.

Well it's not broke belts so I wouldn't worry. They don't even run in the direction that blemish is point.

That looks like a defect in the mold. I would have them cut it to see if ti solid rubber. If it solid rubber and there are no chords in it they should fix it. If they still refuse to fix it, find another shop.

Any defects in the rubber molds will show up in the tire. Since they use so much pressure creating a tire, the rubber gets into everything. Just think of all of the little rubber hairs sticking off of a tire when its new. These hairs are actually air chambers to allow air to escape the mold and give a complete form.

I'd run it until it developed a real problem. If it ever did

That's my plan.

I talked to the store manager. I won't be doing business there anymore. His mindset is he just wants my family and I to be as safe as possible. I told him it would of been nice if they felt that way 3 years ago when they sold me the tires. He did finely offer to get Goodyear to get me a new tire. I'll pass. I won't run a new tire with 3 at 50%. While these ain't bad tires I don't want to be running them any longer then I need to. I wish I had the money and I would buy new wheels and tires.

How was your spare? Maybe could have taken the new one and put it in place of the spare and used up the spare as a normal tire if the wear was close
