I bought my wife a new Toyota Sequoia in 2002 and my Dmax new in 2003. I bought the Sequoia instead of a Tahoe because of the safety features (Side curtain airbags) and the resale value of a Toyota vs a Gm product. The Sequoia was about $5,000 more than a like equipped Tahoe.
After 7 years of ownership on hers and 6 on mine, both with approx. same amount of miles, (100,000) I am very disappointed in the Toyota. It has been one little nit picky thing after another. Nothing major, but the drive light on the gear selector has been replaced 3 times. The oil pressure sending unit has gone out twice. The interior pull down strap for the rear hatch broke. The rear hatch opening handle broke. And much more...........
In comparison my Dmax has been flawless, especially considering the hell I put it through.
No more Toyota for me.
