I need some advice from someone that is familiar with grinder pumps in the septic system. My pump is on its way out, which is sad cause its only 3 years old, and my local plumber quoted me 1400.00 for a new pump installed:eek:

I got to looking online and found a parts schematic and the design is very simple. I was hoping to come out alot cheaper by just rebuilding it. The pump itself is a Gould 2hp 240v submersible grinder pump. My pump sounds like a bearing is going out, it draws 37amps on start up on a 20 amp circuit so it keeps popping the breaker. I can manually power it and the whole ground vibrates when it kicks on.

So am I wasting my time or do I need to just bite the bullet and buy a new one?

Check on the manufacturer warranty- if its only 3 years old it may still be covered under warranty.

If not, then you are pretty much wasting your time on trying to rebuild it- finding and getting the replacement parts will be difficult.

And honestly, 1400 isnt that bad for the pump and install-

GOOD LUCK- Steven

If you can access the pump , pull it,

Get the serial number/ part number off the pump and call around to some parts places and see if parts can be had to fix it.

Im betting for under 200$ and your time you can fix it. I just hope it was designed to be rebuilt.

Keep us informed, ive rebuilt lots of pumps at work, i'd like to see what kind of pump you have.

This is going to sound nuts, but make sure your home electrical system is properly grounded. One of the guys bidding my septic was telling me that he found if the electrical system isnt grounded correctly, the pump will become a ground, and will corrode and fail earlier than normal. He had one customer who replaced his pump 3 times in 10 years, and they ended up finding the grounding issue was causing it. His last pump has now been working 6 years no issue.
