Any danger drilling pan for oil return?

If you must drill the pan with it on the engine (I don't recommend), block off the PCV vents, then hold a rag and blowgun over the oil filler to blow out chips while drilling.

Coat the drill bit with grease to capture chips.

when i drilled mine i over filled the motor with oil and oil was flowing out of the hole the entire time i was drilling , then refilled and did the same while tapping . i changed the oil and filter 5 miles after just to be safe .

its fine IMO, nothing to worry about. I just dunked the tap and drill bit in grease and it worked fine. Any little bit that didnt get caught will either be blocked by the pickup tube screen, or caught by the oil filter. Plus, its aluminum; not like its gonna chew up the oil pump as steel shavings would..

dont even need to overfill with oil as trent said.... just the normal oil level will push out all the chips i highly doubt any end up in the pan with the oil flow while drilling

I just followed Nathans instructions with the exception of packing the tap with grease and cleaning it part way through and packing it again.
