Is AEM the only company that makes aluminum intakes for our trucks? I want to hear my turbo as much as I can so I'm looking to buy some parts to help it out... Ohh and anybody know anything about the afe blade runner??? I've seen a few on some dodges but I cant find any literature anywhere for them being used on Duramaxs

That's what I thought till I found this lastnight.

It's not a pressurized peice like on the Dodge manifold, but a turbo inlet to finish up the aluminum air intake system

EDIT: Does somebody custom make intake systems on this site or another?

Hmmm...has anybody tried these out yet? Most importantly do they fit correctly. I would like to avoid the fitment issues that the early afe intercooler tubes had.

Wouldn't you have just as much improvement by putting a Kodiak MP on your intake without worrying about the aluminum retaining heat?

The Kodiak Mouth piece is smaller than a stock LBZ MP IIRC, And I'm in search of turbo whistle nothing more really I could care less if I don't improve performance very much to be honest

if its coated it will hold heat in longer is what i have been told. Such as if you get any piping chromed it holds the heat in (and heat is your enemy) correct me if i am wrong on this

I hear the cheetahs whistle more. And I don't think you will get much more turbo noise out of the stocker.
I don't have the money for a Cheetah or Headstuds or the transmission or the selfcontrol that is needed to go with the Cheetah as of now lol. I just think aluminum will be louder than plastic, knock on plastic and knock on aluminum tubing and see for yourself.

the MP isn't going to make it wistle a whole lot. i made my own out of 4" stainless pipe and hardly saw a difference.

the AEM would make more of a difference in sound imo. especially seeing how you are still running a stock box.

imo a new downpipe would be a wiser investment.

I'm thinking of getting a 5in turbo back exhaust and an intake soon. The Diamond eye system shouldn't have any troubles hooking up to a 5 in system, correct?

The metal intakes certainly make a little difference I. Hearing more whistle. I have one of the JUNK cheap kits from eBay on mine with a tiny ass chrome pipe and I'd be surprised if it flows more than stock. :(. It does look ok as long as it stays on and did make whistle more noticable in the cab.

The old lady has an old school metal tube aFe on hers and it also has nice whistle in cab and is obviously much better than what I got.

I wouldn't buy either one again though. :D. I want one of the kits that has an enclosed box AND a dry filter!! To heck with cleaning n oiling these stupid oiled filters. I don't care if they do filter marginally better, I'm too lazy. :D

IMO you aren't going to get much if anything out of the AFE Bladerunner on an LBZ. It was designed to improve the LLY as an alternative to using the LBZ inlet, that's why it comes in 2 pieces for the LBZ. For over $200 it definitely isn't worth the marginal gains you might get - at least in my book. As far as noise the aluminum pipes are supposed to have a louder whistle but I only ever see them come with open filter type intake kits - so between sucking in hot air and the aluminum transferring more heat into it it doesn't make sense to me at all why someone would want that. I prefer the closed box style intakes like Banks and S&B and if you add a scoop it's even better. DrHolliday's stock turbo LBZ makes all kinds of turbo whistle with an S&B intake, Diamond Eye Downpipe, Flo Pro 5" exhaust with muffler, and my tuning. Everytime he pulls into the shop other customers there comment on how much whistle it has.

Since you did say you weren't worried about performance at least look for a used kit - people are always selling them to go to real cold air intakes.
