I'm not real sure what this means cause I've never seen it happen before. But I stopped a shot the s*** with our nieghbor today and left my pickup runnin. Get done talking and hop in and there is a message on the dic that says "battery not charging". The voltmeter is also way down. So I hurry up and get home and on the way everything goes back to normal.

Some backstory also, don't know if it has anything to do with it but oh well. I just got my pickup back from the body man last fri. and as usual there is bondo dust everywhere. I had the hood up the other day and decided to wash some of it off. After I did I let it dry with the hood up for several hours. Never once had a problem doing it like that.

So I guess my question is why did the did my volts drop and then all of sudden once driving and getting the rpms up make it be fine again.

There is actually some kinda switch in the alternator that tell it to work. It will sometimes not work properly and you get this malfunction. If it stops charging for extended times go on and change it.

It's a voltage regulator is what my buddy just told me. I guess I won't worry about it. I just thought maybe it couldve been something else.

Car Quest or NAPA would be my first choices. I've never been very fond of Auto Zone's or O'Reilly's parts unless I'm looking for cheap and don't really care about quality. Parts Plus isn't too bad either.

I've never had any problems with O'Rielly's stuff. But I am picky about the parts I get. And I would only deal with one certain store at the time. I wouldn't buy any electrical parts from Autozone. I had nothing BUT problems with those. But they do sell an alternator with a lifetime warranty.

Well I bought one from a wrecking yard so I could get going today. My buddy is going to take my old one out to midland and have some guy rebuild it or fix it one. Then I'll have a spare.

The good news is: I found my problem. The dillhole that put my system in didn't tighten the nut in the junction box good. Which would also explain why my dad gum lift pump was also acting wierd.

The bad news: I have a spare alternator that I'll probably never need. And that I am officially a ra tard. :banghead::banghead::dr:
