2005 GMC 2500 HD LLY ALLISON, 118,000 . I am doing a tranny service and the shop I've used for advise suggested I flush my tranny to get all tranny fluid out of torque converter. For some reason I thought I'd better double check. Can using flushing machine on Allison transmission harm the transmission?

2 pan drains will constitute a complete flush.
Pull plug and refill with new fluid, put a few miles on it and do it again. Change spin on at the second drain.

I cringe when people say the Iffy Lube monnkey told them they "need' a tranny flush. If it's not done right (and it seldom is), it can do more harm than good to your trans. Do what Mike said and you will be OK... and save yourself money and grief too.

Curious as to what damage it does inside the trans & what's the proper machine to use?

The flush machine reverse flushes the transmission removing debris from the filters and sending it through the transmission.

Two different machines, one uses power within the machine to force fluid through, the other which I have had done is an EXCHANGE machine which uses the transmission pump remove and replace.
