So I finally got efi live dsp5 from Tony @ ridge runner and my truck runs awesome! I was running tune 2 tow/ daily driver and slipped 5 th and limped it pulling a 1000 pound empty trailer?

So I guess it's time to suck it up and rebuild the Allison I'm thinking of doing it myself? but was wondering if anybody knows of a good place to have it built in Missouri or Arkansas I'm in southern missouri. Does anybody know anything about M&M transmission in Jeff city MO?

Trying to decide if it's worth the extra $$$$ for a waranty or if should just tackle it myself? From what I have researched I'm going to spend at least $3000 in parts if I do it myself does that sound right? I'm wanting to be able to run about 400-450 rwhp

Thanks

You will need many upgrades on the '01 that don't come in kits. Many worn parts that should be changed because of age and wear. A simple clutch upgrade will not be enough for you.

If you've never tackled an Allison before, meows probably not the time..

X2 about what Mike said...

Getting a tranny built for performance applications isn't as straight forward as a standard rebuild, it's not all that more difficult, you just have to KNOW exactly what to do and where to do it, and why....

Having someone else build your transmission also means if there's any issue with the converter it's covered, if there's a leak it's covered, if there's a bind or improper shift due to a valve body adjustment or the clutches being too tight, its covered you won't be left taking the trans out trying to figure it out, someone else will

and if the thought of labor being covered isn't enough, think about fluid replacement and the possibility of covering parts cost "again" to replace something that didn't get installed "just right" the first time, even for the professionals things don't go perfect all the time....

And for that reason alone, it is worth it to me to have someone else who builds transmissions for a living tackle my performance needs for my transmission...

My .02

Good luck man;)

That's what I'm thinking also I really don't want to screw it up and than have to pay someone to fix it anyways M&M quoted me $3800 for the whole job 3year 36000 mile waranty said he would guaranty it to 650hp?

A friend of mine uses them to build all of his gasser pulling truck trannys and says they do awesome work

You can't buy a good built Allison for 3800.00. That's a fact.

So a stage 5 alligator kit isn't good? I've been running it for 3 1/2 years at around 550-600hp and now around 800hp for a few months no lock up box and hasn't missed a beat. I spent $3k total. I'm just wondering not trying argue.

Where you at in southern mo? In I'm west plains and do a little Allison work. Nothing like mike does though, he is the man on Allison's.

Mike, what's your opinion on a transgo and a good converter in a 5speed ally for applications such as this?

I will shortly. Subman is getting the first kit this coming week for testing. It is different than anything out there.

Hoping to make a little trip up north for this as soon as I get some liberty going.

What can we expect from these kits mike as far as high horse reliability? Or is it going to be something more cost effective but still as good as other big name kits?

Id bet he meant installed. $3800 will buy you the parts, but not the build.

Just a Transgo and converter in a 5 spd? Good luck with that.

I feel like maybe mike is saying all new bearings/seals/pistons/clutches/hydraulic upgrades/converter and labor to build a trans is on the low side and at that price you may be getting just clutches/converter/ hydraulic upgrades?

trnsgo jr is a band-aid on a wound that need stitches... in short.. it prolongs the inevitable

Mike said a "good" built trans. Not someone sticking clutches from a kit in and calling it good built trans.

I built mine myself a little over a year ago. But my pickup only has 100k miles & I inspected everything as I tore it about & measured my clearances.

I'm no expert tranny person by any beens. If I wouldn't have been in Canada I would have had a reputable person build my transmission or if I would have had 200k miles.

If you're not ok paying someone to fix it if you run into a problem when you do it then I wouldn't risk it. I was willing to take the risk and so far it's help up great, I also don't abuse my pickup either.
