Define amazing.

I've got multiple customers with them who ordered from SDP direct and none of them have had a lick of issues in many years. Scott also is relatively local to him. Maybe amazing isn't the 100% best term but he builds a solid trans that I do not personally believe will give him an issue.

I have had a few of Scott’s transmissions current one has been 11.06 at 127 in a 6800lb truck. Truck pulls a fifth wheel trailer to the track unhooks and races, has well over a 150 passes most 11.5 or faster. Scott’s allison’s may leave something on the table in an all out competition platform but as far as dependability is concerned they’ve been great. That being said I’m going a different direction with my next transmission but that’s just because I am going to a more competition based unit.

Reviving this old thread because I'm looking for transmission work again. is SDP in Port Angeles still a good shop? Can't make the drive to Inglewood and Mike is no longer with us..

Some details about the truck: Stock engine. Never been tuned. Stock trans, but added deep pan. Did the deep pan and filter lock myself. Did the transfer case output seal and all regular maintenance. I tow a 16,500lb 5th wheel through Southern Washington/Northern Oregon, mostly in the summer/fall. Truck has 180,000 miles.

It's never been "flushed" with a machine but I changed the internal filter at 80,000 and 170,000 and there was some, not a lot, of material in the bottom of the pan. I know the clutches are wear parts so I assume it's clutch material in the fluid. next step would be a whole service?
I did get a quote of $10K, but that seems steep for a service. maybe it includes upgrades? I could not tell from the quote.

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks diesel hive mind!

SDP still builds a pretty darn good trans from what I've seen. A built trans installed, at least at my shop, is nowhere near 10k including a hot flush of the coolers.

Is your transmission slipping? Fluid smelling burned? If the answer to both is no then I see zero reason to pull the truck down if it's meeting your usages now. If it starts slipping then yes, a rebuild would be in order.

I have had my trans built by Scott at SDP and they are great transmissions. Never had any issue with them. Racing, daily driving, didn't matter.

SDP quoted you 10k for a trans build?
