I think there was rumors of that years ago. I believe GM sold off part of Allison the heavy duty big bus tractor trailer devision I believe a few years ago.I don't recall who purchased it.
I highly doubt they would sell the 1000 series portion. This is a major selling factor and a big money maker for GM.

Seems like they are hit or miss.... some being pretty solid like the A340 series. I think they build Subaru's autos too? at least the 4 speeds... the one in my company car has a spin on like an Allison (01 outback). The ones behind the WRX's could take massive HP with a TC and shift kit.
Anyone know who builds the auto they use int he Eclipse/Talons? Those things are pretty impressively tough as well. Some guys running 9's with just a TC!!!
