Allison Rear adapter need help quick!!!

Okay so I have established the rear adapter of my Allison cracked due to a bad u joint which I replaced the ujoint. I have completely pulled the transfer case out and then started for the housing. I'm not familiar with Allison trans internally I do suspension lifts. When I loosend the 15 or something bolts to take off the adapter housing , gears, clutches, gaskets came off with it. Not quite sure if that is normal. I honestly don't know how to put them back on in order but I made sure the clutches were in order when I removed them. Also a spinning gear with a metal ring and clip won't leave my adapter housing and is stuck with it. I honestly thought this would be just a easy replace never expected a bunch of trans parts to fall out with it. Also my truck has a 7 inch lift and I have a lot of space to work under do I still have to drop the trans in order to put the new housing on? This isn't looking good for me.

Your best bet is to pull the transmission. There is a thrust bearing that can fall out of place and be crushed when installing the new rear housing.

Okay but what about the stuff before that? Is it normal for all that stuff to happen? And what exactly fell out and what the heck is connected to my adapter housing it goes to transmission but won't come off I have to get it off somehow its like a Spinny gear with a clip that you pinch and a metal ring

You need to remove tranny from truck. There has been a few that have fixed it in the truck, but most end up having problems. It's a very easy fix if you remove it and stand tranny bell housing down.

You need to find a manual to get things correct or do some searching. When you have it out and on the ground ready to go back together and at least make an attempt to figure some of it out I'm sure you will get some help.

another option would be to take it out and take it to a shop and have them put it back together, keeping in mind the torrington bearing needs to be in the correct place if it drops out of place things will get expensive.

Well I'm sure I can figure it out to save myself the shop trip its already going to cost 600 in parts alone. I'm having a hard time finding manuals on the internet that show every part from the rear and where it goes. What I don't understand is how am I suppose to get the piece that's stuck on with the old adapter housing off. It has a pinch clip which I took off but didn't do anything. I know I'm probably not being the most specific because Im not familiar with inter trans parts, but I've studied several Mike L threads on on this issue and none ever mentioned gears and clutches falling off with the adapter housing. Kind of sad a $20 dollar ujoint can fry all the way into the transmission and cause trans failure. So cannot wait to sell this truck and buy a 6.4 pstroke tired of GM bull. 2 years ago I had to replace all new injectors because of the lb7 manufacture error bull with injectors

If you think you're going to go buy a pstroke and have no problems you better think again. And dodge for that matter. Go over to their forums and read about the failures and problems until your heart is content. There's no GM bull involved. You're lack of understanding the Duramax/Allison package isn't GM's fault. GM didn't screw your transmission up YOU did. And your lack of education on transmission assembly isn't GM's fault either. Coming to a Duramax forum seeking help and then blasting the very product we all own and are here to support wont get you very far. We're all quite pleased with our GM Duramax/Allison hot rods hence the reason this forum exists. Good luck with your trans issues fuggin retard.

How's about you take a couple pictures of everything that fell out, and also of what's stuck in the housing. As they say, "Pictures are worth a 1000 words". That'll help the guys help you.

Wait till you have to do thermostats on a 6.4 you'll love that job. As easy as it sounds they're a pain. But there's is tricks to make it easier and they're not bad after you've done about 15 sets. But the point is working on a duramax allison is the same deal. I work on powerstrikes and medium heavy duty cummins everyday for a living. And I'll say they all have there advantages and disadvantages.

If you truly read any of my posts on this subject; you must have missed me saying it can not be done in the truck hundreds of times.

If you didn't remove the output shaft spanner nut, then the whole planetary came out with the housing. Your best bet was to remove that nut when the trans is in park.

After your gears and output shaft are removed, then the c5 piston can be pulled out of the adapter housing. I would recommend getting new bearings for your new housing. After your new parts are put together you need to verify c5 clutch clearance, then the planetary and output shaft can be dropped in and buttoned up.

Pull that trans out. Believe me I've watched people do in-vehicle trans repairs before and the time they spend fighting to get everything lined up and use a whole tub of transgel and then cross their fingers.......Its probably the same amount of time to get it out and do it the proper, only way
