Allison 5sp: Alli TC bolt bolt size

Okay this is a new one to me. I rebuilt my trans this past Jan (03 LB7) and I used what looked to me a heavy TC bolt. I torqued them down 44 lbs. and then went over them again dbl checked everything. Every friggen bolt came out 4 days ago. Looking at the TC I'll probably get another as I don't trust the threads now. I will loctite the new bolts next time.
But what is the proper bolt size I have arp 230-7305? Alligator has them listed for the 03 Duramax. This is stock btw. But I just want to be sure I have the right size bolt. May go old school I guess and over torque then back off a 1/4.

I have never had this happen and I used to work with way more hp and size. ALWAYS used to torque down way past spec with long extensions and then back off and never had a problem and this is what I get. I torqued down to spec went over again and added 5 more ft lbs with a brand new click an torque. So at least 49 ft lbs of torque. I can't for the life of me remember what you loose in the length off the extension.

I always use red loctite. And I get them way tighter than 50ft lbs.

Must be a choir gettin em back off again BUT I agree. How much over 50? Usually 6" extension is no big deal but we're talking what almost 30" so ya loose some torque specially if it's a 2 piece extension.

Anything over 50 lb will start pulling threads out of the billet cover. I would only use bolts designed for the converter. If your bolt has a slight shoulder under the flanged head, the bolt will not tighten properly and will back off because the bolt will tighten against the shoulder and not actualy tighten all the way down.
Run your bolt all the way down on the converter while it is out and see what the gap is. Now measure the thickness of the flex plate. The gap better be less than the thickness of the flex plate. Big name bolts are not always the best to use. Your theory of tightening a bolt and backing off is crazy. Who ever came up with that needs to be shot.

They were def made for converter and a bit longer than the stock bolts. They have the hex key tips and I'll check that out on the gap thank you. I'm waiting on the new TC and I have a new set of ARP 230-7305 they are the same length as stock. I don't trust the thread in the old TC now. The flexplate may have to go as well as the holes are looking ovaled out. I was writing frustrated trying to figure what the hell went wrong. But yeah I watched and learned from the older guys back in the day we were throwing cars together to run down the track didn't always have specs and that is exactly what they did. I built 2 and never had a problem with either a 65 chevy that I wish I had kept and the 73 ford torino fast back I remember that car C-6 trans B&M shift kit anyway but no I wouldn't do that again. SORRY I wrote down.
That gap and the longer bolts dam it didn't even ocurre to me.

Are you using an aftermarket converter? What brand if so? Most all aftermarket converters must use shorter bolts as the stock length will bottom out before they lock down on the flex plate.

Nothing special stock refurb from KTperformance, Diamond T TC has the billet and drilled bolt and the friggen bolts I had in it were in to dam long. Just got back in after checking I could kick myself for not seeing it something so dam easy to check. I'll Gibbs smack myself with my cane Geeze ya know when you don't do something for long enough you forget you do have to sweat the small stuff. I tapped out the threads the stock bolts would fit I was given the hex key bolts with the TC so I dummied up and took it for granted they would fit. NOT KT's fault I should have checked. The stock flexplate is you know thin material. The arp bolts are short enough is the 230-7305 the right number for this converter? I started one and it would not even begin to thread in and I'm not going to force it with the old TC. I have old unused short stock bolts and they thread in fine has me wondering if the arp bolts are right or not.
