Air Filter Life

I have a AFE cone-style air filter (this one), and it plugs up really quick IMO. I have less than 3,000 miles on a brand new one, running the pre-filter, and it has already sucked all the factory oil out and it looks to be about 40% life left based on the dirt in the media.

I'm running a S366 with a T4 housing and a stupid big cam, so it moves a lot of air (I max out the MAF in the 5" intake before I even hit full boost), but I had this problem on the stock cam, just not quite as bad.

Does anyone else have this problem with plugging up filters super fast? I will clean and re-oil it, but it will suck the oil out of the filter within 1000 miles, turning white again. Mainly, I'm just tired of cleaning this often.

If anyone can recommend a filter that I don't have to clean 2x before I even change my oil, I'd appreciate it. Or are you all in the same boat, and I'm just a whiner? :baby:

Mine dirties up fast but never seen signs of it suck dirt in or the oil. I just clean it once an oil change (3k miles) and keep on truckin. Pretty much the same filter. It's getting pretty bent up and noticed the matting is starting to become thin in some spots so a new one is on the list. Be interested in what's posted

So far I haven't had any problems with using stock dry paper filters in the stock airbox, other than making sure I get good quality replacements. I change mine every 10K or so and they haven't started to pull the filter indicator out of the green. I buy OEM or STP brands, tried a NAPA and the orange rubber seal started coming apart...

My AFE filter is all weather checked, I probably will replace it with a S&B, I have seen a couple of there filters, they look and feel pretty nice.

So far I haven't had any problems with using stock dry paper filters in the stock airbox...

I wish that was still an option for me, but it is not. Even modded, the stock airbox doesn't support my HP, or future plans. I need a universal clamp-on style filter, or an aftermarket kit that can support the flow I need.

But I agree, a large dry paper filter is the best bet for easy maintenance. Just chuck it out and drop in a new one! And from what I read, they filter better too.

I'm running an AFE as well on my 475/stock and it gets plugged up pretty quick. Never seen it suck oil out just gets really dirty. Probably within 3,000 miles. Would like to see what others have done if anything.

If you get a dry filter I'd suggest running a prefilter to extend the filters life. The Volant airbox seems to pull in quite a bit of outside air, and as a result can get pretty dirty.

You can see how bad the pollen was this year and what didn't make it into my filter.
