Hey Guys, Decided to charge my A/C system today to see if it would hold pressure, and behold I can see refrigerant leaking from the clutch area when the compressor kicks out, can this seal be replaced, or do I have to buy a new compressor :(

Thanks

Why wouldn't you keep it on vacume before putting refrigerant in it? better off just getting a compressor

You can rebuild it fairly cheap. However, if you're not familiar with the inner workings of the compressor, it can be a giant pain to put back together. Also, if it has a lot of miles, there is probably a lot of wear inside it, and you'd be better off with a new one. These compressors are fairly cheap.

When the seal goes, it is normally from a wear ring worn into the shaft from where the seal rides. Replacing the seal(if you can even find one), normally doesn't fix them as the leak normally returns after the new seal runs in the wear groove. Better off to just replace the compressor.

Be sure to actually service the system correctly too before you recharge again
X2 you usually don't get a warranty on your compressor without replacing everything else. Evap, condenser, etc.

Swap it out, change everything else, put an oil charge in and fill with 134.
