Has anybody ever dealt with aftermarket power steering boxes and pumps? Such as this one..

http://dmaxstore.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=23_399_484&products_id=963

Maybe even with this pump:

http://dmaxstore.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=23_399_485&products_id=967

Mine is 225,000 miles old, the fluid just got changed about 4,000 miles ago. When the old fluid came out it was black, so I flushed the system and filled with Amsoil. Now at low speeds its starting to wine trying to turn my 305/40/22's. Just looking for any opinions on what I should do. Thanks in advance!

I don't have first hand experience with either of these but in the rockcrawling world AGR is popular and has a good reputation; I'm looking at getting a pump for my rockcrawler actually.

I also believe James "Chevy1925" has one on his crew cab long box pickup with a lift and large tires.

If I were in need of a new pump and steering box I would be looking into these myself.

Awesome! I appreciate the information. I'm more then likely going to order them both. I need injectors and a stroker pump from Exergy first. When I get them installed I'll
let everyone know how it went.

I wish someone would make a quicker ratio steering box for these trucks.

LML steering box retrofit would be the best, but sadly the mounting points and how it bolts to the frame are just too different from the 2001-2010 boxes to be an easy retrofit... :(

I've got an AGR box in my BURB. It was LOOSE right out of the box. ALL of the adjustments in it were WAY loose. I adjusted it and all was good for about 35K miles when I had to re-adjust it again. When it's tight it's great, but it loosens up with the slightest change in end play. I don't know if this is because of how it is built or not, but a stock box won't be this sloppy when it is that far out of adjustment, and will hold it's adjustment alot longer. I will say it provides ALOT more power steering effort than my stock box ever did, and has a quicker ratio to it. When it's tight it's great, but having to crawl underneath and adjust it every 2 years sucks.

Negative Russell. I have a reman napa box on my truck. The first one I got and threw on was junk, took it back and am still on this second one with 30k. All is well and steering is tight.

The one fluid I love is BGs full syn power steering fluid. It's made a nice difference in my steering at a stop

This is kinda serious, if your pump, hydraboost or gear failed with that much power pushing you at some unknown speed the consequences could be your life or another's, your priority's are a little skewed....:thumb:

Well the hydrobooster does have a reserve accumulator to give you 1 or 2 assisted stops if the pump fails or engine stalls...

I think THEFERMANATOR hit the nail on the head in regards to AGR ...do some research on steering gears/boxes . There was a pretty good write up awhile ago on DP, where a guy tried three different boxes ( Red head , PSC and AGR ) and the PSC had the best feel and no slop... I will be going that route soon

there are also guys on Dp and other forums who have had issues with PSC. When they get their crap right, they make some good stuff. PSC is all my buddies have for pumps and resi on their zuks and buggies. My stock s-10 steering adapted onto my zuk is still going strong so ive yet to switch.

No complaints on my Psc steering pump, only had it for about 6 months though. When I get the time I'll be removing my gear box and sending it to them to rebuild. The $800 GM steering box I got a year ago is loose and the truck wanders all over the road

The best boxes by far are the factory-new GM steering boxes that our trucks had when they rolled off the assembly line. None of the others seem to last like the factory original ones. My truck has 225k on it and the original steering box is still pretty tight and truck goes down the road straight like new.

When it gets to the point of needing to be replaced, Im going to the junk yard and getting a used low-mile steering box from a wrecked truck. Because none of the "new" or "remanufactured" steering boxes are as good as the factory original steering boxes. I dont know why.

Oops!!! I screwed that up. Maybe it was a redneck ram pump and steering box you had, that was a long time ago.

I agree the PSC stuff isn't very good. My rockcrawler needs a new steering pump BAD!!!! PSC has good prices but not if I have to take it off all the time and if never works.
Like I stated before, one of my friends has an AGR power steering pump on his rockcrawler and his very happy with it. I also don't have many friends!!! :D
