Ok....

So I am looking to replace my 1792. Working fine right now, but I'm getting all worked up by the sh!tload of posts I see of these 1792/PPE (Essex) pumps failing especially in cold weather. And it's about to get cold here. I don't run a stock filter head under the hood so if it quits, I can't plumb around it and be on my way

I am also too cheap to do it right and buy a Fass/Airdog. I have to buy 2 or 3 pumps, build different setups, try a bunch of shit and spend even more in the end to be satisfied

I also run the BD filter setup so I don't need filtration.

I emailed Aeromotive about the 11203 11203 info 140gph, internally regulated at 14psi. This setup would probably need a regulator to keep it around 12psi, so I also asked them about this regulator: 13205 Which allows up to 12psi

This was the response I received:

Todd,

There’s nothing particularly problematic with standard grade, petroleum based diesel fuel, the 11203 pump and 103205 regulator should be fine.

This pump and regulator can be had brand new around $250-260 total.

Ok... so I have a few friends running Holley black pumps and such with their diesels.. and that new 12-150 pump caught my eye. 12-150 billet pump
It comes with a regulator, but it's only adjustable to 9psi max

Price for pump/regulator comes in around $210ish, so it's approx $50 cheaper over the Aeromotive setup. To my surprise, this was the response I got from Holley:

Hello
We do not offer any pumps at this time that are rated for diesel. Please try back at a later date.

So I don't know what to think... I have first hand experience with close friends running Holley products on Diesel. But they obviously don't want to claim it works. So this sounds like more of a risk.

---

I guess if I'm going to spend the money to replace a pump that's working just fine right now I should go with one that they "claim" should work....

Does anyone here have any experience with either of these pumps on a Diesel application? Have anything else to throw in here?

we talked to the aeromotive rep at sema 2 years ago...He said their pumps will prolly leak after awhile using diesel. He offered to send us a pump to try but we never got around to contacting him to look into it. He did say they were looking into making them diesel safe, but it wasnt a priority for them and they didnt seem very interested in the diesel market....
also the aero pump is only 3/8" port, not a big deal, but most are 1/2"...

9 psi regulator should be fine. considering you only want to push positive pressure. It will max at 9 psi (it doesnt need to be at 12-14) and pulling it down from 9 psi is going to be the same if it wasnt regulated at 14, you just wont ever get 14psi which is ok....Basically it will hold at 9psi longer until you pull more rather than work down from 14 to whatever....

<br>

Any thoughts on this pump? I think I may try one now that I am in need....

I lost a pump this weekend with no factory primer lol. I had to pull vacuum with my air brake bleeder from the test port after I bypassed it to prime lol...

I have been running the Holley HP150 you have listed sense 2006.

I bought it because it was rated for alcohol. It works fine for me.

Yea I see what your saying.. doubtful it's going to stay at 12psi when in it anyway... positive of some kind is the main thing.

I like that FASS but it's $450.... if I can possibly find a solution for $200-250 that would sure be nice on the wallet.

Awesome!! how many miles approx do you have on it? Has it seen some cold weather? I still think this might be a good pump, even if they don't recommend it. Heard of a lot of people (some I know) that use Holley pumps with Diesel just fine. How loud is it? I like the fact that I can hear my 1792.....

Todd, I feel your lift pump pain. I'm on my 2nd PPE pump and when it craps out, I'm gonna bite the bullet and get a Raptor.

I don't blame you at all... I'm going to give one of these a try most likely... we'll see though :)

Thanks for the responses guys.... Johnboy when you get a min would you post up some more details of your experience w/ the 12-150?

Not all Holley pumps will work some will like the one Johnny posted will. Most of the setups you are looking to build are in the 300 area with both parts.

Looks like he is running the same 12-150 I listed from what he said. That pump comes with a regulator for $210ish. That's a screaming deal for both parts if it will last a while! :thumb:

I'm seriously thinking of going that route... Probably going to order something tonight, and some new diesel rated fuel hose to replace my heater hose :)

I guess I dont read very well, I posted a pump to look into and you already were considering it lol.

I think I may go that route as well. Might as well see how it does. Also dont need a regulator with it..

Just found another guy over at DF that has been running the hp150 for a while with no problems.... guess it's actually very quiet fwiw. Think I will miss the buzzing...

A couple dodge guys are running one too, and on those forums they say its working and quiet...I am excited to try it now lol.

I'd be interested in some prices as well to compare before pulling the trigger. Thanks!

The fuel line is about $30 for 25ft of Diesel rated hose (Gates Nitrile). And I have most of the fittings (although I just spent $20 at Napa to get a couple 3/8" NPT to 1/2" barb in a 90 degree (for mounting the regulator under the hood fairly cleanly).

A friend of mine ran a Holley blue pump on his truck for over five years. When he sold the truck and removed it i installed it on my truck and ran it for roughly another year until it finally quit. I replaced it with a Holley red and have had good luck with it also. On both trucks there was a filter inline before the pump wich may have helped with the longevity. The only reason i went with the red pump was because of the lower pressure. With the blue pump i got a fuel pressure regulator cel when i ran it and i don't get it with the lower pressure pump. On my truck i can't tell the difference in the way it runs with the smaller pump but may make a difference on a high horsepower truck.
