Wifey was out driving the truck today, just got done feeding the horses and was backing out of the driveway. Said the ABS, red brake light, Service brake warning all came on and it kept popping out of gear and won't shift out of first. I get home, take a look at it and find a section of wiring harness laying on the front driveshaft and it pulled the wires out of a connector somewhere. Also noted the speedo would not work on my short test drive down the road.

Codes present still are c0040 and c0055. Check my 3 speed sensors on the transmission and all 3 are there and plugged in. Tried searching and feeling around the best I could and couldn't figure out where this piece of harness goes. Attached is the piece of the broken harness and the harness it was plugged into.

Any idea where this harness is supposed to go to? The wire colors are the same as the rear speed sensor on the transfer case it appears.

If it's pre '07.5 you have 3 sensors. One on the bell housing ( driver side ), one on the rear of main trans case up top and one on the TC. There will be a sub harness between the turbine sensor ( rear top of case ) to the output speed sensor to the TC. Twisted wires indicate they are speed sensor wires.

Depending on the year (mine is an 05, I'd venture to say 03-5 are the same. Don't know about 06 and up 6 speeds.) The only way I got no speedo and both brake lights on was with the vss on the rear of the tcase unplugged. Both other speed sensors are unplugged with my zf swap and I had working speedo and no brake lights. My guess is that is part of the plug for the sub harness Mike mentioned

Is it likely the wires pulled out of a connector or just a random place in the harness? The TSS just has a little short harness and goes into the main loom, atleast that's what it felt like last night when I was under it. I'll crawl under it again before work and see if I can see anything else. Lack of familiarity under there sucks. The two wires on that piece of harness are the same colors as the OSS wires I can see at the TCase.

Ok the snake bit me this morning. As soon as I crawled under it I seen it this morning. It was dark and using the iPhone light wasn't the best. I'll bring home the torch from work tonight and get it fixed up.

Ok back to this issue again, soldered up the wires and drove the truck. All was well. I haven't driven the truck but a handful of times and 100 miles or so since the wires got ripped out.

Decided to take it to town tonight to run some errands and while in town taking off from a red light it decided to limp. Stuck in 3rd gear. Pull over, cleared codes with the edge since all it tells me is p0700 and tried taking off again, same thing no 4th. Engine light sets again and I get it home.

Check the codes and have the normal p0700, p0776, c0055 and c0040 that I had before. Clear the DTCs and get back my C codes immediately. Noticed I had been getting one or the other of them over the last 3 weeks which I thought was odd since all has been well and working fine. What makes me nervous now is the speedo still works unlike before and I don't have shift range inhibited messages.

Truck set the same p0776 last year and tore more shit up than the trans was worth, basically had to get a core trans to start with and rebuild it again. Really hoping it was my lackluster solder job in the dark and not another group of hard parts. Does this sound like it could possibly be related or does it sound broke again? Visual inspection on the fluid seemed fine, still red and clean.

Did you make sure the wires were twisted when you soldered the new connector on? A friend installed his trans in his 06, he forgot to put the harness in one of the clips and his front drive shaft ripped it out. He soldered the wires back on but DIDNT twist them, and gave him all kinds of issues. twisted them and been good ever since
