The tapshift works off resistance so I'm thinking you could use the stock shifter and add two buttons with the right resistance. This will work if the 5 speed shifter will put the gears into the right positions. Just a thought I wanted to throw out there.

Some of us have budgets Ben.

Chances are by the time you hook up your 2 swithces and buy some resistors and get it to work, you'll have the cost or more than you would have if you had bought the shifter with it. One thing years of doing custom work has taught me, 90% of the time you are money ahead to take the easier way out even if it costs you a little more money. Trying to do things on a tight budget I know csot me more in the end than it would have to have just done it the easy way the first time.

Good lord, I was bustin his chops.

It's not just a different shifter though, the column cover and shifter mount are different too.

That said you could get two momentary buttons and resistors at shadio rack for less than five bucks and avoid spending moremmoney and tearing the column apart.

so heat the shifter up and bend it?? Thats what I did and it looks/works perfectly. BTW no they arent different. The only thing is that the shifter is angled differently. Thats why it needs to be bent a little bit so its not hitting your knee when in "1".

ok first of all, that will look hack as hell. Second of all, since when do you have to take the column apart. I installed mine in about 20 minutes.

I have the resistances somewhere in my notes. Ill look them up. Im telling you right now though to just buy the damn shifter! :)

It will look so much nicer, guaranteed to work, its bolt-on, and its way less than 100 bucks.

Well dude, here's the thing... I have the whole column from an 07 classic in my truck with the LBZ and 6 speed alli. I really don't like the big goofy lookin shifter, so I will do something different.
Thank you for the info on the shifter mount, it differs from what I was told and I'm hoping what you said is correct.
This was just an attempted brain storm to provide another option and I was hoping for more ideas and much less negativity. I'm very used to being told I can't do things though. In the last twelve days I put a pickup engine in a Kodiak, swapped a LBZ into my 03 and tonight wrapped up with pulling a locked up LB7 out of an 01 and replaced it with my 03 engine... One or more people told me these thing could not be done, but they are all that...done.
