A couple of issues in one thread

Instead of making several threads for a few issues, I'll just make one.

I also searched and couldnt fine many answers (my searches may have been too specific though)

1. Steering wheel knock? I know that a lot of people have issues with their steering wheel shaft knocking and grinding while turning. Is there any updated OEM replacement shaft or oil that can be used to solve this? Even maybe use an exhaust clamp to clamp down the shaft?

2. What type of brake pads do you guys use? I installed a set from Advanced Auto Parts about two years ago and ever since, my brakes squeal so loud every time i stop. Its annoying and embarrassing.

3. My drivers side taillight goes out almost daily, and occasionally my reverse light. My tail light assembly has a broken pin at the top keeping it in, so that may be why. Does anyone have any experience with aftermarket tail lights? Or is OEM the only way to go. Another thing, could it be wiring that causes this issue?

4. My passenger side air condition blows hot occasionally while my drivers side blows normal. I used to have this issue with my drivers side, but I pulled the actuator and cleaned the gears on it and no issues on the drivers side since then. Any clue?

If anyone has any suggestions, that would be great. I would go over to Duramaxforum, but there is so much clutter on that site

#4. I had the same thing happen to my 2005. Mine was the "blend door actuator". I was able to replace it by removing the top of the dash. There isnt a lot of room to work in there but it for sure beats out having to remove the whole dash.

#2 I use semi metallic. The pad is soft, therefore, less rotor ware. It does produce a bit of break dust, which causes a harmonic, but a can of break cleaners $5.:thumb:

#4 If it's not the blend door actuator might be you temp switch. Them are netorious for having issues.

Thanks, I figured this is a PITA in itself. The drivers side actuator, which is on the passenger side was a pain, but doable.

What about ceramic brake pads?

More often than not, it's actually the bearing in the bottom of the column that is making the noise. The GM part number should be 88963617. They're usually pretty easy to change.
2. What type of brake pads do you guys use? I installed a set from Advanced Auto Parts about two years ago and ever since, my brakes squeal so loud every time i stop. Its annoying and embarrassing.
I like factory GM pads. They're expensive, but they last a long time and don't make a lot of dust or noise.
3. My drivers side taillight goes out almost daily, and occasionally my reverse light. My tail light assembly has a broken pin at the top keeping it in, so that may be why. I put a set of LED tail lights I got off eBay on my truck. My dad liked them so much, he bought a set for his truck. They've been on for 3 or 4 years now with no issues. The only thing I did was put a resistor in the taillight wire to make them just a little dimmer. They were so bright that it was difficult to tell a difference between the tail lights and brakes/blinker.
4. My passenger side air condition blows hot occasionally while my drivers side blows normal. I used to have this issue with my drivers side, but I pulled the actuator and cleaned the gears on it and no issues on the drivers side since then. Any clue?
Like others have already said, it sounds like a blend door issue. It's not an uncommon problem.

I hope that helps.

I do not recall it being too bad. After removing the top of the dash it sits close to the top if I remember correctly.

I will give it a try when I mess with my steering shaft.

I have so much stuff to do just to make my truck ride smoother and be enjoyable to drive aside from make horsepower

To add to what Josh posted about the column rattle. The Old style bearing at the bottom of the steering shaft (by your shins) is white, the new style is a green color. I would do the intermediate shaft as well If it's never been done, I bet both are causing your rattle...

Yeah I'd bet youre right. Its just a matter of taking the time to fix it now that I know what the solutions could be.

Sounds like my steering wheel is going to fall off sometime haha

Thanks

What about ceramic brake pads?[/QUOTE]

Ceramic is OEM material. Great stuff expecially when you got pretty wheels. But they do ware the rotor a little more. Pads are always cheaper than rotors. Carbon metallic is the best but super expensive!

1) Borgeson make a sweet replacement shaft fornour trucks, if I ever have to replace mine, that's what I'm using...but if its just a bearing, that's much cheaper. Lol

2) EBC yellow, every time

3) I just put a set of Recon LED tails in and I'm totally stoked on them, I would recommend them. I also have a clean set of 06/07 tail lights I'd sell ya ;)
But it does sound like you could have a short/ground somewhere...
Doesn't the filiment actually burn up? Or the light go out/no power?

4) digital temp control, or mechanical?
If digital, it could be the control unit there in the dash

Hey thanks for the reply.

My tail light on my drivers side, like i said has a broken screw fitment on the top half, so its always slightly rattling around. The bulbs themselves seem fine. How much of a pain is it to check the wires.

And my AC is digital
