LLY: A/c quite

Hey guys my a/c quite working on me yesterday. It keeps kicking on and off every few seconds. I think it is over pressured. I hooked up a diy gauge to test the pressure and it maxed it out but the low and high pressure valve is on the same line so I'm kinda stumped any help?

what is kicking on and off? the compressor? blower motor? coolness comin out of the vents?

how often on and off (staying off longer than on or visa versa) at idle? what leads you to believe its over charged? did you recently recharge the system?

if the orifice tube is blocked it could cause high pressure on the high side even if the refrigerant amount is right. The only way to check this is to have someone hook up high and low pressure gauges. You are probably looking at a new compressor, orifice tube, and accumulator. I would take it to a known good a/c shop.

The only way to check this is to have someone hook up high and low pressure gauges. You are probably looking at a new compressor, orifice tube, and accumulator. I would take it to a known good a/c shop.

not always. a plugged orfice tube can be from bad a/c lines, junk reciever/dryer, build up in the evap or condensor that broke loose, and so on. Not to mention we dont even have enough info to really give a decisive diagnosis of the problem.

The compressor stays off longer then on and I hooked up a diy refill gauge and it maxed out the gauge when the compressor is on or off

what does the gauge max at? does it go on the bigger of the two lines or the smaller of the two lines? the high side will read a much much higer pressure than the low side

That's why i said he should take it to a good shop, Because the only way to really find out more info is to hook a real set of A/C gauges. Not trying to start an argument it was just my .02:thumb:

I had the same problems and had all but the accumulator replaced. Still get it from time to time when its really hot out. I think it might be in the control. I take mine off Auto a/c and increase the temp a little to like 72 and it seems to work correctly.
