Mike, Eric, or anyone else in the know, got a question for you. My step father has a 2001 Sierra with the 8100 and Allison. Apparently, it started "shuddering" (from what my mother told me, only in first, maybe part of second gear), primarily with the camper hooked up (20-30' 5th wheel). Apparently, the stealer decided he needed a new Allison, for $5k. I got to thinking. If the shuddering was caused by a problem inside the transmission that might require rebuild/replacement(clutches slipping or whatever), then it would probably have limped, thrown a SES and P0700 and P073x codes (which as near as I can tell, did not happen, because as everyone knows, when the Allison limps, you KNOW it's not having a good day). The only way it was noticed, apparently, is my uncle commented on it, and my step father took it to the stealer and they "determined" that it needed a new transmission. I'm thinking it may actually have been a problem with the Torque converter. Unfortuntely, they're in NY, I'm in MO, and I found out of this after the fact, but I think he got screwed. Thoughts from the Experts?

Not knowing the model of the truck, but I suspect that it has a 2 piece driveshaft and the center support is going bad. That is the support bearing between the 2 shafts. The bearing does not go bad but the rubber that supports the bearing does often go bad. Call me if you need more info or help.

Yeah, I should have been more specific ... It's a ECLB 4x4. It's been a while, so I don't remember weather it had a single giant DS or a two piece.
