8.1 allison question

8.1 allison and duramax allison is it the same transmission ??

I imagine the converter is different, and maybe the bellhousing? Trans line fittings?

The transmission internally is the same.

It is identical. Converter is different as is the TCM programming.

Ok thank you to all i just buy an 2003 avalanche 2500 with that but i ll put a duramax in but i think i ll go with lbz and six speed so it will be for sale

Correct. The 8.1 came with a 4L80E.

I have a '02 Dmax/Allison, can I put a '01 8.1L Allison in my truck?

The convertor is different but is that all that has to be changed?

I found one pretty cheap with decently low miles and would like to get it before its gone.
