So my dad has been restoring a 72 blazer for the last year and has just about finished her up but hes trying to do a bit of back history on it. The orginal build sheet is loooooong gone so trying to find out exactly what it all came with has been a tough one. its also got one heck of a back story with it lol.

question is, is there any kind of back log somewhere online or place i can request info on the truck based off VIN or something else? We are 90% sure it was an original CST rig from what we found tearing it down and also seemed to be optioned out BUT we have no way of knowing for sure. She was in really rough shape when he got it.

I'm pretty certain most dealer's parts catalogs don't go back past '73..at least none around me has them. They can search some things by VIN though because I have with my '72, just can't get the part number and part. Ask 'em.

If you come across any rust free 72 reg cabs for cheap, let me know, as mine needs a new cab now. It's just a plow truck now.

Look in the OKLAHOMA area Tim I have a friend from there that has a 76 he shortened the bed and dropped a 12 valve in and the truck had no rust on it.He told me they are all over down there.

that might actually happen at some point. my dad is starting on a 72 pick up for my mom when hes done with the blazer and he cant find a factory short bed in good shape by its self for a decent price to save his life. if he winds up picking up a whole truck and the cab is decent, ill shoot ya some pics. shipping is gunna be killer though

We will be working on a 87 reg cab short bed with a mild Cummins in it this winter, and I know it wont be an easy project. I'd rather get paid and be frustrated with a project nowadays:spit:

Thanks Scott, anywhere online that you know of that is a good start to look?

Also contact Brett with the 70 pick up.I stopped to Talk to a guy in the Dekalb I'll area he has dismantled something like 100 trucks and he has at least a dozen sitting around that are complete. Some I believe even still had big blocks in them.I mentioned that a was going to diesel days at Byron drag way and he should bring his truck, I mentioned Brets truck and he said he thought he knew his dad because they bought parts from him from time to time.8 believe this guy had enough parts to rebuild 100 trucks lol.

Thanks bud. It is a project enough just keeping up with the driveline of the truck, nevermind the body haha. And to think it was completely frame off restored during my lifetime...

Sounds like its a truck from the strike era with crap foreign sheet metal. Some new repro steel isn't much better. Friend of mine has a 73 GMC dually that's been on the road year round. He's welded in 2 sets of rockers, 2 pairs of fenders and 3 pairs of fender liners. Only had to fix the bed floor once though, original spring hangers and all coated with POR. Think its got 300k miles on it too.

i cant find the side shot of them having it all painted, ill have to get a few from my dad.

this is how it looked when they picked it up. Rear end was blown up and had no motor.

interior as of now

its all black with a cream white center white stripe down the side like the two tone colors you could get on the trucks. drivetrain is a chevy 350 with some 202 heads and a nice cam, nothing wild but will have some punch, stock rebuilt th350, rebuilt 205 t-case, 12 bolt rear axle and i think 10 bolt front end (what ever came factory). this was a full frame off resto. there aint a spot on it we didnt fix, replace or restore in it.

some of the confusing parts are the fact it had all the factory options of a CST truck in it but the glove box codes say it was a base model with no rear seat and spare behind the driver seat. it also still had the factory speaker under the front dash where blazers did not come with them. yeah i know this stuff could have been "added" after they bought the truck but it wasnt. it was all factory punched holes in the back inner panels for the side cards that would not have come in a base model blazer and the doors were 100% original and had the square door card holes indicating cst. not to metion the cst decal that was the only left on the glove box door.
