Yeah those guys in Greece are crazy, I follow their build threads on NASIOC and EVOM.

Wow. Beryllium pistons. Unless the price has come down, it used to be $600 per pound for the cheapest grade. It is lighter than aluminum, and stronger than mild steel. You can only machine it with carbide, (it will hose a HSS endmill or drill in seconds), and the dust that comes off it when machining can give you berylliosis which has no cure, which can be lethal.

Nukes have beryllium in the core, and I used to machine it in a clean room for years.

The crankshaft alone will buy you a couple year old loaded up Duramax ($31,000)

Awesome engineering... but it seems more for a "bling factor" than anything. That turbo with that small of an engine would take YEARS to spool. I guarantee you can build a similar type of vehicle that will run a 1/4 mile in 9 seconds for 1/10th the cost they spent on that thing.

F-body camaros can hit 10's with a built tranny/stall and heads/cam. Thats like 4 grand worth of work into it.

actually if you read into it it spools pretty fast.

this isn't just for bling...this is a record setter... no doubt about it thats what its all about.

it went 8's on a shakedown pass only running 30ish psi... this thing can be well into the 7's if not quicker

May just want to do that. I've been looking for tuners and what not...mines just a auto, base model 2006 325i. I've hear though the 325-330 diff is just tuning. Something to think about. Anyone know if they offer anything like EFI?

Obviously it has a "bling factor" considering it has an unlimited budget and the engineering/fabrication skills fit for a Formula 1 team...

The turbo hits full boost (48psi) at 6000 rpm and revs out for another 3000+ that is a pretty good power band if you ask me. When the car was on lower boost running 9.30s it would spool by 4500rpm.

When it comes to the age old argument "you can make this car run this for x number of $$$" it is pretty worthless.

My 4 cylinder Subaru with a stock tiny turbo that you can fit inside the turbo on my Duramax runs 11s with less than $1,500 invested and can run 10s all day and drive home for under $3,000 seems to me it must be 10x better than a big bad LS1 Camaro (which I have owned 2 of them).

That EVO build is amazing and is a great read if you are interested in top of the line engineering and fabrication and that is how it should be viewed IMO.

I've never been so interested in high power builds as that one. THANKS for posting it as I've read almost all 17 pages of the original thread...and my god :eek:mg:

:leghump:

If someone actually put that much time and money into a motor build in the diesel world, there would be a stupiddd world record breaking Duramax or cummins around.

Wow, that is amazing. Sure, you can probably make something faster for less money, but I'm pretty sure that isn't what they were going for. I love seeing stuff like this, thanks for posting it!

I never said the engineering/fab work was crap. I was pointing out that I would imagine their point would be performance and show. And my personal opinion is you can have performance and bling for 1/10th of the cost they spent on that thing.

I don't think you could touch that thing for a 1/10th of the cost considering the materials being used along with necessary equipment.

These may be dumb questions but here goes.

How did they crack the rod ends the way they did?? Will Ti crack like cast rods will or does it have to be mfd differently?? Is it possible to even cut a rod end off and keep the crank/rod end perfectly round??

Since they're not using head gaskets, are those "fire rings" that are recessed into the head/block?? Is it possible to even use a fire ring on aluminum with causing a shitload of wear?

they have to get the same aliens that abduct, cutup and put people back together with lasers to do the machine work on the rods
