60 Series Turbo?

A friend got a freebie turbo off a Detroit 60 Series, he was told it's a Garrett 4294, just needs a compressor wheel (looks chipped up). Anyone have any specs on it? All I know is it's a T6 flange, waste gated, and a 1.2? A/R. Just curious if this would be a useful turbo for anything. Bottom turbo in a twin set? No idea.

I had one of these-paid $100 for it and it turned out to be bunk. FN Ebay. Not sure where it ended up either. I can tell you it's going to be very hard to spool-not sure how it would work in a twin application though......

Got a couple pics of the turbo. I mistyped it earlier, it's supposed to be a GT4298, and it has a 1.28 exhaust A/R with 5" outlet. The compressor wheel measures out to a 98mm, it's wrecked but the housing looks fine and the turbo feels tight. Any thoughts on running this as a bottom? I think it could possibly be really laggy under a stock VVT.

K-31 has roughly a 71mm comp. wheel. Which makes it similar to the gt4294 I think has around a 94mm exducer.

GT4294 has a 94mm exducer.

what size exhaust wheel. from the pic looks like something also went through the exhuast housing.

Doesn't look like anything went through the exhaust housing, wheel looks fine, the divider is cracked on the housing but that's about it. I didn't get an exhaust wheel measurement but I'll see if I can later today.

Detroit 60 series come factory with gt42's. They have many different variations on them as far a housings and wheel sizes. K31's are replacement turbos for them that are bolt on.

Waiting on penetrating oil to do work on the rust so I can split the turbo and get an exhaust wheel measurement. The question still remains, can this work as a bottom under a stock VVT? Or will it be stupid laggy?

gt4202 or an s475 is what a lot of people run as "small twins" w/ stock chargers.

Both are around 75mm ind. and 100mm exd.

Yeah I see quite a bit of people using S475's or S480's but this is also where I get lost. S475= 75mm compressor wheel exducer. GT4202=102mm compressor wheel exducer. So how can both of these be used for small twins? 27mm difference is a ton, right? Unless they run a smaller exhaust A/R to get on top of the 4202 faster then gate it to stop over speeding in the higher RPM?
