Hi I am looking at buying a GMC, I wanted to know if the 6.6 360hp is a better set up then the 6.6 310hp. From what I understand it is the same motor just tuned a little diffrent. Is one better then the other?

Thanks

LB7 (01-04) 300HP, 560FTLB, hidden injectors, gated turbo.
LLY (04.5-05) 310HP, 590-605 FTLB, exposed injectors, VNT turbo.
LBZ (06-07) 360HP, 650FTLB, total engine redesign. No parts in common with LB7 or LLY.

The LBZ has many beefed up parts on it, as well as "tap-shift" 6-sp transmission. Better engine and trans, IMO.

NOTE: 2006 trucks marketed as LLY's (310HP) aren't. They are LBZ's that have a different program loaded. Why GM sold them that way is anyone's guess. True HP rating should have been about 335HP.

dont forget in 06 they also had the LLY, but in truth it was a LBZ with LLY tuning.

x2 on the LBZ being a much better motor however there is one flaw in them that makes them not extremely desirable to high horsepower guys. unlike the LB7 and 04.5 to 05 LLY they do not have forged pistons, they instead have cast pistons which are more prone to cracking under high horse power set-ups.

but i would gladly take a LBZ over any other!

I'm not entirely convinced all LBZ pistons are weaker. Our first "built" engine ran 10's on fuel with LBZ slugs, and didn't crack any of them. They started to melt, so we replaced them.

My guess is some of the pistons had problems when they pressed in the pin bushings. Not all, just some.

06 LBZ is really great engine and trans you can do alot with minor things I have a 06 Chevy LBZ and all I have is a 95 fass, EFI Live tuning, and a transgo shift kit so $1400 worth of upgrades and I make 517 horse to the real wheels dont leave it there all the time but its great for weekend fun
