Not sure why but instead of the machine shop cutting a full keyway, they cut woodruff keys. Still better than a pin I guess. Owell. Wondering where I can get 3 that are 5mm

I found out some suzukis used a 5mm woodruff on there cranks. How do I know if its the same radious etc. And should I get this rekeyed to a full keyway? I guess a woodruff keeps it from walking out, but I don't seeit being as strong.

Anybody? A 3/16 is a common key and is about 9 thousands smaller than a 5mm, or I could get a 1/4 and sand it down. I'm pretty pissed this happened as the crank is already balanced and pretty much just waiting on the keys to finish assembly. Gm or Suzuki might both have keys 5mmx15mm.. waiting for the size of the cutting tool to determine if they will work.

Good link. Thanks for the help guys as usual. I have been paranoid as can be since yesterday when I found out. Will order something when I find the correct length. I guess I can't complain I had 4 keyways cut for 75 bucks

What's funny is cutting a slotted keyway takes about 1 more minute. Both are done with the same cutter. For a woodruff, you just dial straight in, .XXX deep, for a slot, you dial in .XXX, lock the table, then dial across in X to the end.

The reason you use a woodruff, is because a straight key can fall out if you don't restrain it, usually the washer does that for you.

Well I ordered a 25 pack of 5x7.5x19mms. I called the shop and somebody thought the diameter of the cutting tool was 3/4, so thats 19mm. It was the only one with that B measurement so surely it is the correct key.
