Hey Mike, What do you make of this?

2003 5 speed allison, I had to go pull a friend out of the snow bank tonight, tranny has been fine for the last 50,000kms haven't been that hard on it other than hard take off's no boosted launches, no brake stands.

Anyways, I put it in 1 so it wouldn't shift while I was chewing in 2 feet of snow got to the end of his driveway and had a weird smell, like battery posts burning off, tranny fluid, and clutch material all in one. So I stopped and noticed that the truck wouldn't move forward until I gave it some fuel, reverse it will roll without touching fuel.

Now when I put it in R it rolls back, N it rolls back with a shudder, D it just stops and won't roll forward until I give it a bit of fuel then it jumps like it's locking and shifts fine. NSBU?

I'm going to assume something got wet with all the snow I was ripping threw, I just hope it's not friggin internals.

I don't know if it matters, but I have never put it in 1 before, and was a little stiff had to bump shifter down to get it to go, not overly hard, but probably hard enough to jar something...

Thank you Sir!

Well I just pulled the NSBU out, I'm going to guess it's hooped, the plastic circle piece that sits on the shifter has two distinct spots I can feel, P and N and then after that there is no more "stops" as I rotate it, all seems like one...

Make sure the NSBU is adjusted properly. If that doesn't fix it pull the pan and cut the filter open.

Found this post by you Mike,

The NSBU switch has 2 hash marks; ( looks like this - ) one one the rotating part that slips over the shaft and on on the stationary part of the switch. Line the hash marks exactly oposing each other. Put trans in nuetral, then slide the switch over the shaft and lock down both bolts. You are adjusted. Reassemble everything else and you are done.

Thanks, didn't realize they had to be adjusted, that would make total sense now after having to bump it down into first. I'll report back if/when I get it fixed.

The hash marks were lined up before, I forgot that the NSBU's come with that alignment tool, I had replaced it in 04', I found that stupid thing a few years ago and couldn't remember what it was for, I figured it out today tho when I seen a new one.

But I still re-installed it and aligned it and tried it, just to see... same thing. I'm no expert on these by any means, but those pictures don't make me real happy... your going to give me bad news, aren't you?

Your filter is plugged. The debris looks like G-Max material. Installing a new filter will allow you to move the truck around probably. I would not try driving it too far.

That's what I though... what the hell would have happened? ... I been fairly nice to this one since I talked to you on the phone when I cooked my C1's doing a burn out.

I guess next step is to yank it out and see wtf happened... I'm so happy right now.
